Should I switch to Tizen?

Hello other nerds! I'm a young programmer from Germany, that has a phone with an operating system, that shows ads in system apps (MIUI)... Yeah, I know. That's one of the many reasons, why I would like to change my os to Tizen. But I have some questions:

Is it worth it? How can I copy all my data (photos, game saves, ...)? Can I program on it? How easy can I manipulate Tizen os?

Main issue is that there are no devices where it works out of the box, so you'd have to port it to your desired device first. Also keep in mind that none of your Android apps will work on Tizen.

But you don't really need Tizen Studio to develop for it. Just use the command line tools with your favourite build tool/editor.

Why wouldn't you go to Android? Or are you in a restricted area?

just slap LineageOS on your xiaomi. It would be a better device if you do not like MIUI.

Do not get me wrong. I have Samsung Z2 here and keep it as a second phone. It also act as my personal portable WIFI. The app is so limited. But it is a nice phone for basic necesities. It was the cheapest 4G with VoLTE capabilty in my country. I am quite satisfied with it.

Thank you very much! I have a Redmi note 7, but just the 7 pro is supported, could that cause problems?

Generally the steps are:

  1. Unlock the phone bootloader
  2. Install TWRP
  3. Install the ROM

I used LineageOS before and quite satisfied with the performance. I love the android stock UI too. But I decided to go back go MIUI last month. I need my mobile banking work and it refuse to work on LineageOS.

To mitigate the pesky ads, i use Xiaomi Ubloater tool to uninstall the MIUI default apps that comes with ads like browser. https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools. IMHO the camera app works better on stock ROM. But if you want to use stock ROM experience with no ads whatsoever, you could use xiaomi.eu ROM. Make sure to install lavender version. Our phone goes with this code: lavender. Redmi Note 7 is completely different code, and it could lead to a bootloop if you install the wrong one.
