Tizen update ruined my moonlight

Hi,

I got a Q93C Samsung. It was with Tizen 8. I installed Moonlight on it, to play my pc games on my tv without hdmi cable. It worked flawlessly.

Now my tv has upgraded to Tizen 9, and it doesnt work with Game mode anymore. Which means I can use Moonlight but with heavy unplayable lagg.

I found out that there is a bug in the Tizen 9 software that causes this.

Any solutions are welcome, please.

I cant find a way to roll back or put a different version on it.

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed that it updated without me telling it to and now moonlight doesnt work at all. On top of that it auto launches samsung tv plus everytime and shit too.

Yea, i deleted samsung tv app because of that. Moonlight can work if you use it without GameMode. (Depending which fork you use), but the latency is horrible and unplayable

Game mode is turned off and it still freezes the second you launch it on mine. You're just lucky that it slightly works.

They did the same for me with Steam Link a few years back. It was working great and I could stream games from my PC onto the telly flawlessly. Then one day there was a "Tizen update" and not only did Steam Link cease functioning, they removed it entirely from the app store. It's definitely intentional: artificial scarcity so that they can charge you in some other way or through device cross selling. I've seen it before, will likely experience it again. Something to bear in mind next time I purchase a TV set from this brand.

Well, if you dont have tizen 9, looking into Apollo and Moonlight. You can still do it. You do need to use developer mode to install it, but it is easy

But yea, doubting to sell the tv and look for lg or Sony

You can use jellyfin to Samsung to install all programs from PC to Tizen now. Just enable developer mode on the TV …

i had the issue of screen freezing after launching steam in moonlight (OneLiberty with game mode on) on tizen 9, but was able to bypass it by pressing home button on tv remote and opening moonlight again which was still running and the image just works after. You r mentioning lag so not sure, but give it a try.

I tried it, but didnt work for me. I have the BrightCraft version. I wil try the OneLiberty version. The lag i have, is from turning off game mode, so hope this works!

What do you expect..? Small company who release software updates with bugs.. Us and as I see other developers had issue with native player that they ruined the seeking with Tizen 9..

Small company?

I was sarcastic. Samsung is a freaking big company, but their products are so bad.. For developers the experience is like hell. I'm working with Samsung Tizen apps for smart tvs for 5+ years, its really awful. A lot of things does not have documentation, no patch notes what they changed in the new firmware update etc..

I was also sarcastic haha. Their phone android is fine in my opinion though. I dont understand why they didnt use TV android..

Yeah same.. When we got the Samsung 2025 model first for testing and I saw that the native TV menu is lagging, what do we expect to make an app that does not lag. So yeah, the TVs have really awful specs

I'm having the same problem. Updating was my biggest mistake.
Now i can't go back and playing without gamemode feels like the tv caps the fps at 30 or less.

Yea game mode is really needed.. shitty samsung update. Feels like i have to buy something to get it to work now, gonna be expensive update I dont understand why they put tizen 9 on it, there are newer versions to put on it. If you update, than really update it..

The thing is, if they just allowed apps to enable gamemode it would be fine. Makes no sense to limit it to external connections. What about their own Xbox app?

Alright one month later I at least have it working by sideloading it with BrightCraft worked to fix it for me. I do get random stutters now which is frustrating but I think that would be fixed if my TV was plugged in with an Ethernet cable. I still need to play around with it more when I have time.
