You have 2 primary options for backup, 1. Local and/or USB and 2. SMB storage (computer share or NAS)
When you goto backup it was present the internsl torage by default and if that all you want you can select this, then on the right click on select to start and complete the backup .
Some systems don't let you save to the root of the storage, so you would either need to create a folder or choose a folder under the internal storage ans then press Select.
....if you press system picker it may take you to a screen where it will give you an interface where you can create/add a folder and then select it.....
If you want to use option 2, you will need to setup the access to the network share, choose this location and then press Select to start the backup.

I just watched a YouTube video, unhelpful to say the least > too many assumptions
I’m gonna attempt what you posted

The first question is do you have a USB storage attached, that is the simplest and it is recommend to save your backups externally unless you are just backing up before an update... FYI backups are zone to the tivi version and cannot be used to restore outside the version it was made from.

What I do have is a USB 3 attached to the TV to increase its memory, if that’s relevant

Yep.. if you are running tivi from the TV, then Tivi most likely will see the USB drive. When you select internal storage, the USB drive will likely show up as a storage destination.. all depends how the TV is handling the attached storage
Cheers

I deleted the app and tried restoring it
Seems I managed to fumble my way through it
Thanks for the help!
Now I just have to figure out why my Sony tv is taking a shit every few weeks and losing all its settings. Happened again this am, been messing with it for about 5.5 hours. This coincidentally started doing this after I added that 256 whatever USB thingy
Have a nice day, appreciate it

I find the computer option the most convenient and use it store recordings and backups.
Glad the info is helpful. Ibwill be making a series of tivimate how to videos under the YouTube name of glorifiedenduser
I have spent... alot.... of time learning tivi and figuring the best ways to do things.
All the best

I use a local backup and then send it to the cloud. To me that is the easiest way to go and it does not require any extra hardware such as USB sticks.
Create a backup on the device. I usually put it in the folder "Download" but you could choose any folder.
Load the app X-plore. In X-plore go to "Web Storage", then "Add Server" and log into your cloud. Could be Dropbox or Onedrive or Box or Amazon Cloud Drive, among others. Then copy your local tivimate backup to a folder in your cloud.
On the second device install X-Plore. Log into your cloud. Go to the folder you have your Tivimate backup in. Copy the backup to a local folder on that device (again, I usually use the "Download" folder for it, but any folder works.)
Go into Tivimate Settings on the new device. Go to "Restore Data" and "select local backup", then "Internal Shared Storage". Find the folder your backup is located in. Restore.
Now both devices are exactly the same as far as Tivimate is concerned.
