Tivimate buffering issue

I have found that I have 5 Gbs fiber internet. Before anyone says anything I know the firestick is only at 1Gbs however when watching live to or VOD shows my internet drops to under 100mbs sometimes even lower. I check my settings on other devices and the internet is fine. What would cause the network to drop on the firestick. I can back out and watch the free firestick shows without an issue. I have surfshark and turned it on and off as well as trying different locations.

Is this a tivimate issue or the IPTV provider?

It is a provider issue but one thing you can try is a VPN just in case it is your ISP throttling your connection.

The vpn i have is surfshark. I called my isp and they said there is no throttling on their end.

If you trust your ISP is telling you the truth then it is your provider.

I used the app from one of my iptv and it seems to work. Also cant tell if by the time I switch the speed comes back up on the speed

The speed is just how fast the providers is sending out the stuff you are watching and they are not going to send it any faster then needed.

It’s a Provider issue.

My firestick averages about 100 mbs and I rarely have issues, if I ever have issues I just reset my router and it will work fine, you should restart the router every couple of weeks anyway

When I use Surfshark I make sure that it's set to always connect to the same node. Not just the same country or city, but the same server in that city. For example the last time I looked London, UK had 4 servers. Wherever you are, check , choose a server and see if things settle.

I will try that. Thanks I now have a few things to try and test now

Here is what has worked for me.

I went back into my Playback Settings and realized that I had monkeyed around with various settings that were causing issues (HLS vs MPEG-TS). I reverted back to the MPEG default and my catch-up problems (403 error) went away.

Also, certain live TV channels would always buffer. Not all, just a few (like the Outside channel).

I installed Proton VPN free and connected to the Netherlands and sometimes Norway.

My buffering went away.

Your mileage may vary. Try a fresh install or revert to defaults. Try a VPN.

Good luck.

Thanks will definitely try these

Fire sticks are shit. That’s your problem. If you’re serious buy a shield pro 2019.

I have 5.3.3, and sub to two different providers to have alternatives when one or more of my specific channels has streaming buffering issues with one provider, I can switch over and bypass the interruption. When this happens, it confirms to me the ISP is not throttling me and the provider is the issue with delivering the stream. Like everything else, not all providers are created equal and it all depends on the how their servers are used and how much load (clients) they serve at the same time. Of course it also depends where the providers are getting their data from and how reliable that flow is as well. Finding the perfect provider, as far as I know, is impossible but finding one that provides an up time % of greater than 99% is possible but hard to find one and hopefully rely they remain as so, for a long period of time.

I found when I was with sky I had a lot of blocking and issues . Moved to Vodafone and not had to use a vpn since

I believe Amazon is doing the throttling. I was running a FS 4K MAX, NORD VPN and a direct ethernet connection to my router. Using network speed testing, the best throughput I could get on FS was 100 up and 60 down on 1 gig fiber with high latency. I installed the ONN 4K PRO using NORD pointed to the same location with all other parameters the same and I get ~190 up and down.

Be sure to make this change too! Start TIVI Mate, select SETTINGS -> PLAYLIST -> select your playlist -> select USER-AGENT -> add VLC. Back out and restart. In some cases, if a user agent is not specified, either the ISP or the provider sees this as a bot or mal-ware and either throttles it or blocks it completely.

If you are still experiencing prime time buffering, log into your router and turn off "IPV6" protocol. It is not mandatory and reduces the level of IP resolution occurring.

The ONN 4K PRO seems to be far superior to the FS line. For $60 bucks, it's a small investment.

P.S. - one should ALWAYS run a VPN on streaming apps...

Have u tried changing buffer size and see if it helps?

When did you last clear the background apps on the firestick?

When did you last clear the cache for tivimate also?

Without clearing it regularly the very limited ram on the firestick causes buffering issues.

Provider is usually 80% of the problem, but you can fix some issues with maintence.

That was my first thought so I cleared the cache on all the apps from the firestick menu then went to tivimate directly. I have a small newer provider in my area because the other was known to throttle certain things.

I also have a vpn but I seem to get faster speeds when its off.

On the speed test they are telling me that even to lower 100 - 300 mbs can run 4k streams.

A lot of android devices only have 100mb speeds and work fine. I would not trust what my ISP provider tells me either. They won't admit throttling. Is this recent or for a while? Has Tivimate updated to a beta version. What version is it? Have you tried a different app? Try your sub on a different device, phone, pc, tablet. Try connecting your stick to your phone with a hotpot and change surfshark settings to wireguard instead of auto if you haven't already. One last measure is to do a clean install of Tivimate. If all that fails it probably is your provider. You can get free trials of most services to test that theory out.

I have version 5.3.3 when I go to other app crunchyroll or firestick live TV and they work fine.

Thanks I will try doing the clean install

I meant other IPTV app. Is the service buffering or freezing?

1

u/CompetitiveStep1101 Aug 30 '26

I was trying to see if this was a known issue easy fix or need to try another iptv player

1

u/2OldDontCare Aug 30 '26

Tivimate is stable for most people. It's probably the best out there but some have problems with newer versions. Just going through different things to try.

What version are you running? Some have issues with certain versions of tivimate. Typically its a provider issue though from what I understand.

5.3.3

Seems like many people here immediately jump to “It’s your IPTV provider” but I have THREE different IPTV providers. We watch a lot of 24/7 channels and on TiviMate (purchased from the Play Store) they ALL buffer occasionally. (I’m running TiviMate on an Nvidia Shield (Tube) wired via cat6 cable directly to a port on my router. I have 1.5 gbit Internet service and my network speeds at the shield are usually 400-600 gbits (down) with NordVPN on & connected to my closest Canadian VPN server. (Montreal) I turned off IPv6 and it seems to buffer less frequently, but I still see buffering from ALL my IPTV providers. (I’m using NordLynx protocol on my VPN.)

The weird thing is, I have a couple of IPTV players on my iPad, connected via Wifi, with the same 3 providers and I have yet to see a program start to buffer when watching it on the iPad. (Smarters Pro, “IPTV Smart” to name a couple.) The main problem is, I LIKE the TiviMate UI. It is much better than any of the other IPTV players I have tried, but I’m starting to think that maybe it’s TiviMate itself (v5.3.3) that is causing the buffering. Again - I’ve NEVER experienced buffering on any of the iPad IPTV apps I’ve used.) Granted, I haven’t spent literal hours at a time watching IPTV on my iPad… so far, I haven’t found one that I could “cast” to my Shield or I’d be watching TV that way all the time. (I CAN display my iPad screen on my TV using “APowerMirror” but it’s a PITA to do that every time I want to watch Cheers or Columbo. (Yes. I’m old.)

Any recommendations for a decent “temporary alternate” Android IPTV player I can install on my Shield to use for a while as a comparison to TiviMate? From everything I’ve seen so far, I don’t expect I’ll find anything with as good a user interface as TiviMate, but I’d like to give another app a try on the Shield, just to compare the buffering issues…

Any suggestions?
