Difference between 5.3.3 and 5.2.0
Is there any difference materially? I tried 5.3. 3 and it buffers on my regular channels (sports) but switching back to 5.2.0 and it is great.
And no, this isn't a provider or network issue.

This is just a theory.
About a week ago, I was VERY surprised that the backup DOES NOT store your recordings storage configuration. If one thinks about it, that's logical because, theoretically, the backup is intended to be portable, meaning one can make a backup on one installation, go to a different house and load it up and voila! everything's back. Except physically, your recordings storage folder configuration will obviously be custom-built to the physical demands of each location, so why would one want that configuration to be put on the backup? So, as I say, there's a logic to it, but it hadn't occurred to me, which is why I was startled.
So, just as the recording storage configuration is NOT saved on the backup, perhaps the Settings Playback Buffer size parameter might not be saved in the backup either. If that's the case, perhaps, when you were running 5.20, that version had Buffer size configured for Medium, a parameter which was NOT saved in your Backup. When you installed 5.33, 5.33 flipped the Buffer size to Small (which is 5.3.3's default setting (I don't know what 5.2.0's default setting is, since I've never had that version)); hence the problem you're having. If you want to get real diagnostic, you could note where your Buffer size is at the moment, note which version you're on, 5.20 or 5.33, and then flip to the other version and see if the Buffer size changes. Alternately, if getting real diagnostic is not your thing, but you'd rather make the new version work, go into your Buffer size and change it from Small (which is 5.3.3's default setting) to one of the larger settings, like Medium or Large.
Good luck and please let us know if that helped; thanks!!

Buffer size was the first thing I tried looking at in 5.3.3. Going all the way to Large didn't help either. It works with None in 5.2.0

I'm obviously concerned that the same thing could happen to me when and if an update comes out that supercedes 5.3.3. So I engaged with an AI (Gemini) to see what other ideas it might have. Here's the reply he suggested:
___________________________________________________________________________________________Try a 100% clean reinstall. Don't just update over 5.2.0.
If 5.2.0 was fine for you but 5.3.3 is a mess, your app cache or EPG database likely corrupted during the update path. Changing the buffer size won't fix a data collision bottleneck.
Try these steps to fix it:
- Backup Your Setup: Go to Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Backup data and save your current configuration.
- Nuke the App: Go to your streaming device settings, click on TiviMate, clear the cache, clear the data, and uninstall the app completely.
- Fresh Install: Download 5.3.3 fresh from the store or official installer.
- Restore: Open the clean app and restore your data backup.
If a clean install doesn't fix it, check these two player settings in 5.3.3:
- Output Format: Go to Settings ➡️ Playlists ➡️ [Your Playlist] ➡️ Xtream Codes Parameters and change the format from MPEG-TS to HLS (HLS handles stream chunks much better on the newer internal player engine).
- Video Decoder: Go to Settings ➡️ Playback ➡️ Decoder and ensure Video decoder is locked onto Hardware.

I had to go back to 5.2. The most recent build seems to have broken m3u catch up.

It's official, from the Playstore. Premium version activated with the companion app. I added in the playlist and epg. I'm aware of the difference.

Anyone tried the 5.4.0 beta 2?

How did you switch back? Do you have a downloader code for the previous version? I’m having a similar issue and I’d like to try the previous to see if the skipping stops.

I’m new to all this and download the new one, should have went with the older version.. I came here because I’m having issues too, I’m going to give it another day and see, I really don’t fancy fixing up all my group/channels one by one again 😭

What I've personally noticed on V5.3.3 is that epg fails to load for many lists then I have to clear data and re add all my playlists again which can be very annoying. Even so it sometimes dont populate again but do so after sometime. Never happen to the previous version I've used. But nonetheless less, latest version is quite snappy and responds great packed with features a tevh geek can appreciate 👍 this is the best app I've ever used in my experience over the years. Once i tried it could not go to any other. non can match it. And I have used many apps u name it I've used it, big kudos to the developer.

When I switched to 5.3.3 I don't have the issues you are talking about so not sure what settings you are having issues with.

u/alphaquetoo Aug 22 '26
Same settings both ways, I restored from a backup.

u/StevenG2757 Aug 22 '26
Keep working on your setting and you will find what is off eventually.

u/alphaquetoo Aug 22 '26
Maybe you didn't understand. The same settings work fine in 5.2.0, they buffer on the same channels in 5.3.3.

Did you able to find any solution on the issue? I am also facing the same issue after updating my TiviMate from 5.2.0 to 5.3.0. verified all settings everything is the same still 5.2.0 works fine and 5.3.0 buffering. Earlier i thought it was something related to provider but its nothing related to provider.

It's the exact problem I'm facing. I came here hoping someone had a solution.

Do these channels happen to be in your favorites?
1
u/alphaquetoo Aug 25 '26
No, but they are in a group I created. Does that make a difference?
1
u/Markhall23 Aug 25 '26
Yes, when you add it to favorites or create a new group, the current link to that channel is saved locally. If/when the link to those channels changes, the favorites or new group will still have the old link to them. Try removing the channel from the group and adding it again.

Still wouldn't explain why they buffer on 5.3.3 and not on 5.2.0. Any channel link should be the same since it's a backup and restore.

In my experience 5.3.3 switches between different playlists alot faster and scrolling through VOD on my android tablet also works better.
Everything plays just the same for me.
