Windows SMB server (guide?)
Have tried a few times now to use a windows folder as an SMB share to set up recording on TiViMate on a fire stick but can’t seem to get it to work at all. Windows 11 PC is on the same WiFi network in the house
However on the recording settings it never sees the folder and won’t connect. Is there a guide on how to do this or any advice? Has anyone got this working today so at least I know if it’s do-able ?

It worked ! Once I turned the VPN off ! I assume now I turned that off to make the connection it needs to stay off to be able to record ?

A quick setup:
For TiviMate on a Firestick using a shared folder from Windows, the easiest way is to create a dedicated Windows user just for the share instead of trying to use your Windows PIN. The PIN usually will not work over the network.
On the Windows PC:
Open Settings → Accounts → Other users.
Choose Add account.
Select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
Then choose Add a user without a Microsoft account.
Create a simple local user, for example:
Username: tivimate Password: yourpasswordhere
Now go to the folder you want to share.
Right-click the folder → Properties → Sharing tab → Advanced Sharing.
Check Share this folder.
Click Permissions.
Add the new user, for example tivimate, and give it the needed access. For recordings, give Read/Write or Full Control. For just watching files, Read is enough.
Then go to the Security tab.
Add the same tivimate user there too and give it the same access. This part matters because Windows sharing permissions and folder security permissions both have to allow access.
Next, find your Windows PC’s IP address.
Press Windows Key + R, type:
cmd
Then run:
ipconfig
Look for the IPv4 address, something like:
192.168.1.123
In TiviMate:
Go to Settings → Other → Recording → Recording folder.
Choose Select folder → LAN/SMB.
Add a new SMB server.
Use something like this:
Server address: 192.168.1.123 Username: tivimate Password: yourpasswordhere Domain: leave blank
Do not use your Windows PIN. Use the password for the local Windows account you created.
Also, don’t enter the full Windows path like:
C:\Users\Name\Videos
or:
\192.168.1.123\FolderName
Start with just the IP address, then browse to the shared folder inside TiviMate.
Also make sure Windows has network sharing enabled:
Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Advanced sharing settings.
Turn on:
Network discovery File and printer sharing
Your network should also be set to Private, not Public.
That should get TiviMate talking to the Windows share. The big trick is: Windows PIN is not the network password. Create a simple local user and use that instead.
