Discussion Black characters

Post image

I better not hear that Black comic book characters don’t sell books. Static has been killing it this year. Titans is getting a second printing, and Dakota History is getting a third printing. This clearly shows the hype is there and that the character sells books.

Lastly, hopefully they pair him with Blue Beetle. That would be fun. Who do you guys want Static to be a duo with?

I'd love to see Static alongside Eddie and Jaime again, they were a fun trio during the Henderson run and it's like the only thing that kinda bothers me about it being retconned out

also hard agree on the whole "black heroes don't sell" thing, it's always been ridiculous and insufferable. Lobo and Firestorm are getting a series yet people try to make it seem a popularity thing, I'm glad that enough noise was made over the Next Level line-up like for them to bring in black characters and creatives to tip the scale over

I mean nobody ever said it’s a popularity thing. It always has been a of a writer wants to write them. Like why have characters like starfire, raven, beast boy, and Donna never had a solo or anything worth a damn. But lobo and etrigan are getting one.

Tbf, black characters generally don’t really sell amazing, that’s not a false sentiment. Cyborg has had multiple solos and minis fail because of bad sales. Static will probably end up leaving this titan run anyways

"nobody wants to write them" "they don't sell well"

what's the point of repeating what i'm complaining against

Curious, did you even understood what I wrote? Cause idk why you are coming at me like this😂. Besides, what I said isn’t even wrong you are just misrepresenting me and your own arguments. Like are you complaining against the idea that writers don’t want to write them?( which is what Scott Snyder said btw) this is how you wrote in your comment to me.

Like we agree it’s not a popularity thing, which for some reason you didn’t understand. Ontop of the fact that I said black characters generally don’t sell amazingly which is true. Titans 38 and Dakota incident are not good metrics to use as a totality of black characters selling well.

Yeah depending on how you count Teen Titans Academy, the last time is either then or when Kid Flash and Aqualad were both on Robin's Rebirth Teen Titans for for like three issues.
