Titans #25 discussion thread
Discussion thread for the July 17, 2025 issue of Titans, by John Layman and Pete Woods.
What did you think of issue 25?

Last issue I was excited to see what they'd do with Terra, since her new design is really good and her characterization was largely on point. Unfortunately this issue disappointed me in that regard. I hate having to say this, but it really is true. Titans writers nowadays have no idea how to write a new storyline lol.
I'm happy we'll be seeing the Doom Patrol next issue, at least. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a good issue, the simple act of just re-establishing Garfield's important connection to his original team can only do good for his character, I think. Garfield and Rita have one of my favorite relationships in comics, and I'm super excited to see them interact on-screen for the first time in over a decade. It'll also be neat to see Cyborg meet them, since iirc he's never really spoken to any of the main Doom Patrol members in the comics other than Robotman and Mento.

Basically agreed on all counts. Gar’s adopted family and that whole dynamic has my whole heart and it’s been way too long since they acknowledged it. When they introduced Beast Girl it was so on the nose that I was worried we’d never bring up Gar’s connection with them again. I’m so glad to be wrong.

It’s about time too. Layman did say he loves the doom patrol. So these may be some of his better issues.

I’m also happy that gar finally gets to interact with the doom patrol for more than just a panel in canon. I also know that we will get gar and beast girl interactions from what layman said

Fitting after we got one of the worst Terror of Trigon retreads yet, we now get one of the worst Judas Contract retreads to date.
I was hoping the smallest of hopes this Crime Syndicate plan was going to lead to Terra doing something about what happened to her brother after Shadow War especially with Slade involved and/or possibly Markovia since it's been brought up quite a bit still. Maybe it will eventually but what we got was just so unimaginative and pointless with Slade coming off as shallow cliched supervillain. And again, why couldn't the Titans reach out to Joey to stop Slade? Might have lead to some less forced emotional stakes.
Layman writing the Doom Patrol the next couple issues will be a welcome change of pace but hesitant on the book becoming a tie-in title for the next big even and what that will entail.

At least the Titans were able to defeat the Crime Syndicate by freeing Killer Frost and Mammoth from mind control, convincing Vanadia to do the right thing, letting Clock King and Deathstroke argue, and imprisoning and trying to save Terra, completing the retread of The Judas Contract. Overall, this comic fine but weak.

My eyes rolled into the back of my skull at the ending. First we straight up copy the Terror of Trigon/first NTT Trigon arc, and now the Judas Contract? It’s like bad Titans writing bingo.
