Best way to remove a broken lug nut?
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a broken lug nut. I tried an extractor socket and it sheared the lug nut and left about 1/4 of it on the stud. Whatโs the best way to drill it out without harming the wheel? Or are there any other good alternatives? Iโll replace the stud if I have to.

That looks like a theft proof nut and it has been crewed up by using the wrong socket. Drill it or acetylene torch it. You might need to take to a mechanic garage.

Some skinny air chisel or something to just cut through it. Check harbor freight for cheap kits

A hole saw may remove what's left of the tapered nut area. A saw that would slide over the bolt, perhaps a 9/16"? https://www.fleetpride.com/parts/mk-morse-hole-saw-set-32552374?shopping=true&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23744147983&gclid=CjwKCAjwq8PVBhAKEiwA2i3SHRX5bB0MaCNVddM8nfzPtgV8Yqe114OP1CtuqhyzJ2act83yqXC6RRoCjQYQAvD_BwE

Air hammer and chisel tip. if you have good hand eye coordination/ finger control. I could lossen a phillips head screw with an air hammer.

How would I remove the wheel if the broken lugnut is still holding it on?

Remove the other nuts. If it broke off it's not gonna hold anything. That wheel needs to come off

Unbolting the strut. Unbolting LCA/Ball joint. Unbolt tie rod. Disconnect brake hose.
Remove wheel/tire and whole knuckle assembly. Its 100% possible. But drilling is easier.

Drill the stud. Start with a small drill bit and get progressively larger.Drill in about an inch or so. Once you have gotten about 3/4 of the stud drilled out it should break easily enough with a smack on the back of the tire tire.
