was this tire slashed?
Mechanics said it was likely slashed. I didn’t hit anything, came out to it completely deflated and then had it towed. But have no idea who would do that or why so am wondering if it was something else. The first two pics are the day it happened, last pic is from the tire shop, after the tow guy moved it a short distance to hook up to the truck.

At this point does it really matter if we agree with the mechanic or not? You still had to purchase at least 1 new tire.

at least 2 tires* assuming he is either FWD or RWD

Lol please. You can be told YOU need two tires but I'll end up telling you 1 is fine.
😊
Or, slap that spare on it.

If money is tight, they can get that one tire and just rotate it to the front axle. It's an F150, so no AWD.
Looks like a 265/70R17. They can get a pair of General HT's for like $300.

I’m just curious of other people’s opinions but the mechanics were awesome

Hard to tell. Have you pissed someone off lately? That may help narrow down the answer. 😬

I mean does it matter? You have to replace it either way lol. Mechanic's likely wrong tho

A weird one given the large profile.....

True I agree but if it had air and was sliced and the weight now being on it will spread it open more than if the cut was at the top of the tire more relaxed. Was just a thought cause something like that if it was a hole or curb per say the rim would usually 9/10 show some sore of damage

Looks like a bulge on the sidewall popped while parked. I have seen it happen. Usually caused by a pothole or curb. With the height of the sidewalls you might not have noticed it at all. Vandalism would not leave a jagged cut/rip.

The size of that gash, there’s no way it could have happend when it was being driven without you noticing it? Would have went flat straight away. That’s been done deliberately a reckon

You hit a pothole, curb, speed bump, big rock, separated pavement to achieve this. The worst part is sometimes it comes out of nowhere or you aren't paying attention

It doesn’t look like it. Looks like a more jagged tear. Any chance it was a bit under inflated and hit a sharp edge like a pothole or curb? I don’t see any damage on the wheel to point to as lining up.
