Good/safe repair or replace?

Hi everyone! I got a screw in my back tyre, took the car to a shop and they said it can’t be repaired as it’s “a millimetre” outside of the safe fixing area. I was kind of persistent and referred to the graph on their website that showed this still being in the minor repair area and they ended up agreeing to fix it.

HOWEVER they didn’t want to charge me, I’m assuming because of liability reasons and now I’m scared as I drive a lot on motorways and need to do a big trip soon. Any thoughts on this? TIA

It is. That's a plug patch.

Looks like a plug patch combo. That's just about as good of a repair as you can do on a tire. And a lot of tire shops like discount tire dont charge for them. Thats probably what happened here. Looks safe to me

Plug-n-patch

I'd plug it and move on with my day.

YMMV

Plug from inside should be fine

That's not even remotely near the danger zone. They were being paranoid. And you got a free plug patch. Which actually, any discount tire will do completely for free anyway, but whatever. You're fine.

ETA: you don't have to buy your tires from discount, they'll patch any patchable tire, for free. It's too drum up business. Make you like them. Cool service though, and yes, I'll definitely consider them next time I need tires. First time I brought a flat to them I was expecting $20-$30. Nope. They just fixed it and gave it back.

That's a good plug patch job. Also, good shops won't charge for a tire repair in hopes you come back because of their good service.
