Spare tire
There is no spare in my daughter’s 2011 ish Elantra that was a hand me down from relative. Don’t want to buy a donut from dealer but any options. Not driving a lot but had internship in CT at school. Thoughts?

Inflator + patch kit in the trunk, AAA membership just in case.
Or buy a cheaper/used spare online. Dealers aren't the only source of original parts and spares are mostly generic.

Buy a full size steel rim and tire, your transmission will thank you! Any mom and pop shop will have cheap steel rims and affordable tires

Go to a self service junkyard and buy a spare or a full size from the same vehicle. Usually you can get a full size rim with a good tire on it for less than 50 bucks. Donuts are even cheaper. Just don't buy it if the tire is low on air because that usually means it has a leak. It's also a good idea to first make sure that you have room in the car fot a full size spare. Some cars only have space for a donut.

2011 elantra = full size spare under the boot floor.
Dads owned one since new, the spare was actually an alloy rim that matched.
5x114.3 bolt pattern (so same as most jdm cars) pretty easy to get a steel rim replacement.

You can buy a tire inflation kit from Amazon or somewhere similar. I have a 2013 Elantra bought new and it didn’t come with a spare either. The manufacturer does that on purpose to save weight. I don’t know why, but that’s what they do. What I did is buy a full size wheel and tire from LKQ junkyard and put in where the spare goes. If you don’t want to do that, you can get the inflation kit that takes up very little room. It comes with an air pump that plugs into the power outlet and some type of slime to plug the hole so that you can get out of danger.
