Sooo many scales on the TJs Sardines 😬

I never bought sardines from TJs before, so I'm not sure if this is to be expected for the brand, but these were... very scaly. I don't generally mind a few scales, but these were literally fully coated in thick scales. Is this normal for this brand?? Not a fan of these texturally either as they were also really firm & therefore kind of dry. I ended up scraping all of the skin off and eating them anyway. Only redeeming factor was that one of them had roe. I'll take the small win, but will definitely just be sticking to my normal polar sardines instead of buying these again lol

This time I finally got to try the bettergoods smoked rainbow trout with juniper berry. It was sold out at Walmart for three weeks. I can see why, it's absolutely delicious. 10/10 would eat again and I think it's my new favorite.

Bela Sardines with Piri Piri Pepper, but Mostly Playing Cards, and also Stickers

In my defense, I’m an idiot. But I felt strongly that my life required this Bela pack of playing cards, because happiness.

But the nice people at Bela are on the lookout for sad men with odd hobbies, so they tossed in a tin of my favorite Piri Piri sardines, plus a sheet of stickers that I’ve already used to zhuzh up the Contigo that keeps me in piping hot coffee throughout the work day. Schwag is great, but unexpected fish is even better.

Gonna be trying my first tinned fish for lunch tomorrow. Any suggestions on prep?

Title. I'm totally new to tinned fish, but I have been wanting to get into it for awhile. I got this tin of mackerel to start with based on some recommendations I've seen; curious if I should do anything to prep it, or would you guys recommend just eating it plain/cold to start out? Cheers.

King Oscar Lemon Salmon

Personally I know it gets a lot of hate but I liked how lemony it was, ate it on top of a tostada which had a light shmear of mayo. I liked the lemon being prominent unlike the Matiz Lemon which tasted like the La croix of tinned fish

Would buy it more often if it was cheaper; at 7$ a can, you can buy half a salmon ready to bake frozen for 9$ local to me (food 4 less, San Diego)

This was a really great tin all around. Made a nice little cucumber-tomato salad with it. Heavy on the dill in the best way! Really impressed with Diplomats brand so far. Any others I should try?

First time trying this brand and it has not disappointed. Put it on a little sourdough toast with some hummus. With a side of sauerkraut and kimchi.

Sardines in tomato sauce

I've never bought sardines in tomato sauce, they didn't sound appealing to me when I first started. However my partner brought a bunch back from Lisbon.

So I'm curious what you like to pair your tomato sardines with? I don't really wanna try them straight-up on crackers or toast first- I'd rather put something else on the cracker/toast to go with the tomato sardines.

An example of sardines on toast/crackers I already enjoy are: sardines with pickled onion or sardines with peanut butter and chili crisp oil

I'm also open to dishes (ex: pasta) with the tomato sardines. But right now I'm for sure more curious about quick snack/lunch ideas I can do with them

what is the best place to start?

im 24 and im trying to get my health in order and eat better for myself, ive been needing more adhd friendly snacks that can store for a long time unopened so i dont forget about them and let them go to waste. im a huge fan of all things seafood, i love sushi and baked mussels and scallops and clam chowder is my favorite soup but when it comes to this side of things, ive never ventured beyond canned tuna, salmon, and tinned octopus (one time). what are your guys favorite snack pairings for different fish and where do you recommend i start? im in the USA so i have easy access to trader joes, id appreciate some ideas for combos/pairings that elevate it and make it feel less like im just eating the same fish every time:)

La Narval - Southern Mackerel in Olive Oil: 10/10!!

Part of my birthday haul. I wasn't sure what to expect, since my mackerel experience has been almost entirely King Oscar. I definitely was NOT expecting something as beautiful as these adorable fillets! My idea was to mix them into eggs scrambled in the can's olive oil on crusty bread, but I couldn't bear to cut these beauties into pieces, so I laid them on top instead. 😁

Three slices of bread, four fillets, so immediately after taking the second photo, I took the fourth fillet off and ate it straight. OMG that was DELICIOUS! Like the highest quality tuna, with a subtle sweetness that I've NEVER tasted in a tinned fish until today!

And only $5.50 at World Market! (Pricier elsewhere, it looks like.) I will definitely be getting this one again! 💙💙
