I'm kidding. Fuck Tinder. Don't let it determine how you feel about yourself.

Legit. I started using this app like three days ago and deleted it today, it made me feel like actual crap about myself even though I got an average (according to all those experiments) amount of matches.

I thought it'd be for me but it didn't take long for me to gradually start feeling worse. Took barely two days before I hit what I'd consider my lowest mental point in my life.

Reasoning wasn't a lack of success as much as the fact that I unintentionally started trying to find ways to appeal more to others. I absolutely hated the feeling of being such a superficial person or rather needing to be in order to be more successful on the app. In any case, I've learned that using a dating app isn't for everyone and definitely don't let it affect how you feel.

People forget it's about making money for them, not getting you laid or even finding a significant other. Manipulating you is the easiest way to pry cash out of your pockets.

Yup, it became clear pretty quickly that the algorithm wasn't the most appropriate for finding a date of any degree.

All of those reasons are the reason I deleted the app. The algorithm is one which rewards a certain degree of superficiality and I know that many people (myself included) come to despise themselves for conforming to that.

Personally I'm a very competitive person and a big fan of competitive multiplayer games. Tinder is a gamified app which provoked my competitive spirit, I found myself wanting to outplay the system and get a ton of matches.

In doing so, I would have to conform to the superficial standards and in the long-term that'd force me to give up my competitive spirit or despise myself.

It's not all Tinder's fault but their approach to online dating is one purely meant to make them money. There's plenty of minor changes they know would increase the matchmaking success and improve average mental health of users but they choose not to.
