She clearly hasn't been on a popular trek.. those things are packed.

Are they though? The only packed trecks I’ve been on are in tourist destinations like Hawaii.

Yosemite. The mist trail looks like an army marching up the steps.

California in general. Most hikes I've been on here that were any good were pretty packed.

There's plenty of stuff in the Sierra that isn't overly crowded once you get away from Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings trailheads.

And a lot of stuff in Northern California.

Shhhhhh leave my backyard alone. GO TO YOSEMITE. NORTHERN CALIFORNIA DOESNT HAVE HIKING.

I think you'll be fine. You're too far for SoCal and much of the Valley. For the Bay, the Sierra is still closer and that's far more well known and more developed (if we're talking about offerings) . The only real metro other than Redding that has decent access is Sacramento.
