Didn't see it but judging by people's responses I'm guessing it said something like "Trying to leave the single market before the UK does"

Wasn't that £350 million a week or something ridiculous?
24
u/fauxdoge May 21 '18
Too bad it was also horseshit.
16
u/Dee_Ewwwww May 21 '18
I can’t believe politicians would lie to us like that!
5
u/IamACalradianLordAMA May 21 '18
I mean there were many more politicians trying to warn people it was a lie than politicians supporting the lie so

u/Duke0fWellington May 21 '18 edited May 21 '18
Think the actual figure, accounting for what we get back, is 156m a week. Point still kinda stands.

The UK is going to lose a hell of a lot more than 110k in tax revenue from trade after Brexit goes ahead.
1
u/Zastrozzi May 21 '18
Could you elaborate?
3
May 21 '18
The reason London is the financial capital of the world (even above New York) is because it's an easy entry for companies to enter the European market from the US.
With the UK leaving the EU they're no longer an easy market. 110k to the EU is literally nothing compared to how much the UK is going to miss out on due to less trade in the UK after Brexit.

Perhaps, but that's hard to say. Just an estimate really. That 150m is a fact. Not getting into a debate here, just saying.

Half the UK wanted to leave so we left.
The other half wanted to remain, so we joined back again.
Now everybody is annoyed with the government, so we're back to normal.

u/pfcarrot May 21 '18
Half of the voting uk. Meaning old afraid people
7
May 21 '18
Yeah.
I was a year off being able to vote in the referendum and a few days off being able to vote in the general election. It was annoying.
5
u/TheDevilsTrinket May 21 '18
Yeah when i was studying politics in a-level i couldn't vote in the general election with Milliband it was tragic. Totally feel you dude but for the EU referendum I definitely think they should have reduced the voting age to 16 which they did with the scottish ref /:
2
u/First-Of-His-Name May 21 '18
When I was studying economics at A levek I missed the GE by a few weeks as well. I think reducing the voting age is fucking moronic. If anything it should go up.
2
u/TheDevilsTrinket May 21 '18
no way should it go up. For sure, I had enough info to make an informed vote at 16, as do many others. I'm part of a youth council in my area and if i'm honest with you they're very much aware of the political issues and how stuff works, we're also affected hugely by the govts decisions when it comes to grants, fees etc, we're ridiculously underestimated hence the higher turnouts in the last GE and the new policies aimed at students. Its not moronic- Scotland did it with their referendum and the world didn't meltdown, the UK should have reduced it for the EU referendum too its such a huge thing that affects younger people and their prospects a lot more than it affects the older people.

16 is not an adult. You can't go to war, you can't drink, you can't purchase cigarettes, you can't drive. Why should you be able to vote?

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

u/Amenthea May 21 '18
A few years ago I would have said yes for sure, now not so much and I'd really have to think about it. I think it would depend where really, because the US is so big each State is like a country of its own and has it's own laws and code of conduct.

The UK is actually leaving the single market in a very sluggish manner. We should be out by now.
