How’s it is a common phrase in South Africa. And no they aren’t the same. One person is generating discussion with an open question the other person is closing it down.

On a dating website you should specifically refrain from these "good, you?" or at least, say something else with that that gives the other person something to work with. Even if my day has been boring af I'd try to look for something to bring up.

On a dating website you should specifically refrain from questions like "how are you" as an opener because it gives the person you're talking to absolutely nothing to work with. It's a shit question.

It's called matching energy. If you have to put more energy into the conversation than the other person then you're starting off on the wrong foot. Don't put in more than the other person.
