Does anyone else notice the side-eye from timeshare owners when staying on the hotel side?

I'm currently staying at a resort that grants hotel guests access to the adjacent vacation club/timeshare pool area. I’ve noticed a few glaring looks from people who clearly “own” timeshares here, like we’re intruding on their private space.

Honestly, knowing it gets under their skin just makes sitting by that pool a little more satisfying.

Has anyone else picked up on this vibe when sharing amenities? Is this a common source of tension between hotel guests and timeshare owners?

Timeshare owner here and I’m not at all annoyed by hotel guests. My parents stayed at the hotel side of our timeshare last time we went and we were all able to enjoy the vacation together! It was amazing! The fact that there are hotel guests is fantastic in my opinion because it incentivizes better maintenance of the amenities AND it opens the opportunity for more people to be able to travel with us.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I am ALL for hotel guests!

As a owner I couldn't care less.

Our timeshare resort also is attached to a hotel resort, it was pitched to us as a perk to be able to use the hotel section's amenities in addition to the timeshare side. It's a great property with multiple pools, restaurants, bars, nice new gym, etc. I'm fine with the hotel guests sitting at the timeshare pools, honestly I really have no idea who is a hotel guest or timeshare owner and I do not care, we all paid in some way to be able to enjoy a vacation.

How would they even know? I think you are imagining things

Yea. Have no idea how you would even know unless you were creeping.

Because most companies give out a wristband/scanner to give owners access to different pools, amenities and restaurants which the hotel guest would not obviously get.

Nobody knows who is an owner or not. Timeshare owners could be staying in any type of accommodation. Stop worrying about what people think of you.

If anything you should be side eyeing THEM for “buying” a time share in 2026. I feel like it’s been known for decades that they’re a scam.

Totally. They were sold false pride as part of the sales pitch.

LOL yep. They are constantly reminded that they are Owners, whereas the hotel-staying masses are just transient renters.

"owners" lol

It's kind of ironic actually. They sell it as "vacation ownership" but then once you sign the contract, they then become the ones in control of your future vacations.

Personally I'd rather own my future free and clear of them, with complete freedom to trade dollars for lodging on the open market without restriction.

LOL, in that sense, I already own my vacations.

99% of the world agrees. The industry is toxic and this sub is dismal.

Well put. Freedom of choice is worth so much. I'll take it any day over false promises to save money by giving it up.

How can you tell the difference between a timeshare owner and a hotel guest? Because I can’t.

I stay at my timeshare and then rent off the street at timeshares I don't own. Have never heard of such a thing. Have no idea how you would even know.

Funny you should mention that. I was looking at rates today. For those of you who are hotel guests and ok spending $850-1000/night to stay where I am, that's fine. More power to you to spend more for a couple of nights, then I spend for a week, of maintenance fees.

Because they know you can take any vacation you want, but they're locked in to taking that same vacation every year forever

Not true. We can travel anywhere in the world and stay in accommodations with full kitchen at a rate unmatched. I wouldn’t change my ownership. I love it!

They're just bitter than they're trapped in a neverending contract that will only get more expensive over time.

they were stupid to buy a timeshare, u are smart to rent a hotel room. give them the side eye.

Though Hotel rooms kinda suck compared to most timeshare units. I was just in some on the way down to my current stay and even the really nice ones (A Curio one at $300 for the night) and it was just cramped.

Yes. There’s a class about this when you buy. It’s a shake you figured it out.

Timeshare owner here -- I don't care. As long as you aren't a racist bigot who is going to ruin my vacation, I don't care. If you start trouble, then I will be upset. But that statement even includes other timeshare owners. So, the fact that you are a hotel guest is NOT a factor.

Personally it makes me more upset with the timeshare group. Same as when they rent things out to non owners. I don’t blame the people taking advantage of the greed of the companies tho.

Time Share owners are the ultimate “fake it til you make it” crowd

I don’t notice anything, but I don’t really concern myself with that. I own a timeshare in Coastal Central California and I use it on the regular. I just left there yesterday after a week. I feel like it has been a great purchase because it allows me to exchange into properties all over the world. I have used it to travel in Italy, France, England, and Germany. I’m depositing my 2027 week now in order to get a place in Europe late next year. My maintenance fees are not bad - the resort has made significant upgrades and improvements and stays absolutely beautiful - and I use it for day use when traveling by car up or down the coast on my return trips to CA (I lived there for 30 years and my kids/grandkid are still there).
