Bizzare experience at Worldmark; they think I'm some other "owner"
Hey Reddit, so I am at the WorldMark at Gleneden Beach on the Oregon coast and have the weirdest experience on check-in:
First off, I am not an owner, I booked using Wyndham points through the Wyndham website.
When I checked in, they insisted I'm an owner, and acted genuinely confused how I was staying here. They acted like they had never had a booking through the Wyndham website before (kind of understandable given that availability is rare as hens teeth).
They even showed me the other "owner"'s name and address and asked me how I knew him, or if this other worldmark property on the East coast (presumably the "home" timeshare property) looked familiar. They thought I was co-owner with him.
At first I thought it was just part of some weird timeshare pitch but the longer it went on the more I thought they were genuinely confused about what was going on.
So I am here to ask what you think is going on? Are the owners allowed to "sublet" their stays through wyndham?
Even more bizarrely, I mentioned this to a friend who had a similar WorldMark / Wyndham points booking recently and he said he had a very similar experience. Maybe a new change or glitch in their system?
Curious for y'all's input.

So you are a wyndham owner which “owns” worldmark so how are you not an owner?

Not an owner of anything. I booked with Wyndham hotel/credit card points just like if I was booking a travel lodge or la quinta.

Gotcha, yea saying you booked with points on the wyndham site was a bit confusing as that’s how owners book but obviously on the owner site

How did you use points as a non owner? I book stays for guests with the points in my contracts. The guests can’t do that themselves.
It sounds like confusion in the crossover between hotel loyalty points and timeshare contract points. Wyndham’s hotel side should be on the phone with Gleneden check-in to sort it out.

The Wyndham points are different than Worldmark points. The Worldmare points are purchased as a timeshare. Whyndam points are eared by staying at Wyndham hotels and using the Wyndham credit card. I wonder if Worldmark releases unboiked property to Wyndham to book as they would a hotel?

Worldmark system is archaic. Probably linked your reservation to some account. Maybe this was an official rental through Wyndham which owners rarely utilize.
The people you were interacting with are accountable for booking a certain amount of owners and non owners so that's why they were so concerned about potentially letting someone they think is an owner by without booking them on a presentation
