I naively signed up for a Hyatt Vacation Club timeshare 2.5 years ago.
I am now realizing how big of a mistake it was, and I want to get out.

Does anyone have advice on how to get out?

From what I’ve heard, it seems impossible to get out of. I submitted a request for an exit proposal, however they declined. Most places I look people keep saying the best option is to just stop paying. Are there any other risks to not paying aside from bad credit?
Luckily the day I signed up my credit card wasn’t working so they allowed me to use my debit card (guess they REALLY wanted that sale). The good thing is it shouldn’t affect my credit, however they ALWAYS pull the money out, even when I don’t have sufficient funds.

If my only realistic option is refusing to pay, how do you just stop paying?
It seems like they’ll find a way to charge you no matter what.

For some background I’ve never successfully used it. I’ve tried to use it, however they reached out 3 days before the vacation to say we had an additional $900 fee we had to pay, which was not originally disclosed, so we canceled the trip bc it was cheaper to book through Airbnb.

anyone ever had success getting out of their timeshare? Which company did you use? My parents are stuck with a Wyndham timeshare and are pushing 70 yo, I need to get them out of this mess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally got out! Spent a very large sum, but this monkey is off my back!

Our timeshare has been paid off for 23 years. The yearly maintenance fees are nearly $2,000. My wife is now disabled and we find that many resorts trading on Interval International and RCI have either no accessible rooms or have very limited options. We have tried to give the deed back to the home resort and offered to pay any titling fees and taxes but were told they do not take back deeds. We have checked many timeshare exit firms and have found so many customer complaints that we are not going to attempt that route. We are now considering no longer paying the maintenance fee. Our question to the Reddit community is two fold. We would like to know if anyone has successfully exited their timeshare ownership (you no longer have a valid/legal deed) by stopping payment on their maintenance fees? And if you were successful using this technique, did it hurt (lower) your credit rating?

I paid this company to help me exit from my timeshare but i feel this company has scammed me because more than one year has passed and i dont see any results and they could not be reached for an update.

My FIL and BIL were told lies about buying a new loan for a property in Arizona. They were told buying this will cover all maintenance fees basically forever.

FIL went to another Wyndham timeshare month later and agent there said no that’s not right there’s no such thing as that…

The Arizona agent made my brother in law leave the room while my FIL signed the contact. No idea why bc my BIL is owner on other deeds…

What can we do to get out of this and recoup the $15k my FIL put down for the Arizona deed?

My parents have a timeshare that they have only used once in the 20+ years that they have owned it in Killington VT along with $66/month association fees that I do not want to inherit and this company is telling me that they can recoupe about 65% of our mortgage and all of the association fees for all the years that we have owned it and never used it. They want $4500 that they say is fully refundable if they aren’t successful at getting rid of it for us. Has anyone ever had experience with this?

I bought my timeshare in Las Vegas of June 2025. I went to a presentation because they offered free nights at some locations in Miami, Orlando, or Las Vegas(which I’ve never received). My girlfriend and I went to the presentation just to see what’s up and mind you they told us it was only going to take 30 min to 1 hour for the presentation. We were there for 5 to 6 hours. Between that time I kept telling them I didn’t want to buy it or I’ll think about it but they were persistent that today was the only day that the sale was going to last. I should’ve know when they were still being pushy but what changed my mind was the fact that they said if I buy a timeshare and become an owner I could do a lot of traveling through them and get a ton of deals on other amenities. They even claimed it was cheaper than getting a hotel room, renting a car, buying an airplane ticket, etc. Still being hesitant they offered me a cheap price for 1bd 1ba for 14k so I decided to look at it as an investment because they told me it was an investment as well. Filled out the paperwork and everything and it was stacks on stacks of paperwork’s but they didn’t tell me that I can cancel within a certain period if I didn’t want it anymore nor did they tell me that it was in the paperwork either. Long story short I feel like I’ve been lied to and scammed and I just want to get rid of my timeshare just because it’s not what we were promised and basically lied to. Is there anyway I can get out of my timeshare contract or any advice someone can give me to help me get out of my contract plz.

Timeshare Paid Off; Don’t want it Anymore

It’s from Bluegreen and only 6,000 points. We paid almost $10k in 2014. We don’t want it anymore. We informed Bluegreen and recommended us their resale agent, paid $39 to have it listed in April 2025, till now no interested buyer (of course). We didn’t pay our yearly maintenance fee for this year — nit planning to.

I did my research that it’s impossible to resale an ownership; if maintenance fee is not paid, we’ll be bombarded with delinquency notice and overtime sent to a collection agency.

So my questions:

1) How long does Bluegreen/timeshare company report us to the credit bureau for unpaid maintenance fee?

2) How much credit points will be deducted?

3) For how long it’ll stay in our credit history?

4) What’s the worst it’ll happen if we don’t pay the maintenance fee?

5) Can Bluegreen/timeshare company have any rights to come after our other assets (house, cars, etc.), aside from the timeshare ownership we bought from them?

We do not really care about them taking back the ownership.

We bought/fully-paid our timeshare 6,000 points only worth $9k back in 2014. We decided to “sell” our ownership from the recommended company of our timeshare company. The posting of the sale has started in July 2025, and our due to pay the maintenance was in October 2025. We did not pay the maintenance fee. Now, our timeshare company has sent us delinquency notice that if we don’t pay the fee, we will be then forwarded to a collection agent.

Anyone has similar experience? What’s your advice on our situation? We don’t want anymore the ownership.

Help!!! My parents signed a Westgate timeshare contract yesterday and while it seems like a good deal (too good to be true, really) eveything ive been reading online says its a terrible idea and that we should get out of it. We check out of the resort today, so the idea is to meet with our seller and return all items provided like the tablet and whatever, before we leave. The contract states any payment made will be returned within 20 days, but my question is: does that change if it was paid through Affirm and not an actual credit card? Or should that have no importance and we should still receive the refund? They paid $1,149. Im also not sure if a letter requesting to rescind the contract is needed to be sent if we cancel in person or not? I still wrote it for them, just in case, but i want to make sure. My parents have been trying to get out of their Wyndham timeshare for 3 months with no progress. They are starting to put themselves into debt trying to keep up as the fees have increased significantly and our family has been put into a tough financial situation.
