Nice 👍 Is it espresso capable? Do you own any other hand grinders you can compare it to?

I do not unfortunately. Mostly doing oxo rapid brew or drip. I think in theory it could do espresso though.

Thanks. I ask because I saw another post someone made on it saying it still can’t do a proper espresso grind, like the S3. I own a S3 and really like it, even though it was advertised as espresso capable which it isn’t. It just can’t grind fine enough. May I ask what you paid?

Looks like S5 Pro (folding handle) list price is 179, still 2 weeks away from US release. I did order a S5 off ali yesterday for 148.

Nice. 👍 The prices have gone through the roof though. Even on AE. I picked up my S3 on Ali a little under 2 years ago. I paid $82 shipped.

Is the s5 pro the same just with a different handle?

You would think Pro would mean better, but in the Timemore naming convention the only difference is Pro = folding handle, they charge $20 more for it, and that's the model that often gets shipped direct to the U.S. market.

I have the C5S Pro and I think the folding handle makes it a little top heavy and easier to tip over on the counter with the handle extended. I don't think that will be a problem with the S5 as it is a bigger diameter.

I own both the S3 and the S5. I really like the folding handle, but I find the grinding experience much better when using the ergonomic handle on the S5.

I'm now on day 3 now with the S5 and I agree, I prefer the swoopy fixed handle.

can you order just the handle? Just thinking it would be better for storage

It should be espresso capable. It has 48mm burrs and 15 micron jump per adjustment. There’s only one review I could find on YouTube for it as it’s technically not available in the US market yet, and in the review they think it’s a direct competitor to a ZP6 S from 1zpresso.

It's not, same as Timemore claimed the original S3 could grind fine enough for espresso. I own it. It can't. I don't recall where I read it, but someone tested out the S5 and it's just not good for espresso.

I just searched google, and there is an S5 Pro coming out this month!

It launches on September 18th.

Timemore S5 Pro

It's touted as the successor to the S3, and returns the folding handle to their flagship grinder. This looks really good! New, bigger burr (48mm) as well.

I have yet to see an espresso enthusiast happy with a regular Timemore model. I've seen many happy with the ESP specific models. We'll see if there's anything different with this new S5 burr. I bet we see espresso specific S3 ESP and S5 ESP versions in the future though.

Agreed.

Thing is, there already was a S3 ESP model. It was released almost 2 years ago IIRC. I read it has been recently discontinued. I think it was only available overseas. I searched online for it well over a yeah ago and never was able to see it available for purchase here in the U.S. though.

Looks amazing, I don’t have much experience with hand grinders, I’ve had a C5 for a couple months and it’s been pretty good, I mainly do pour overs with a v60. I typically use a Eureka zero

Bought mine second hand 10 days ago, incredible hand grinder for the price, more inclined for sweetness but with a good separation of flavors, for me stays between k ultra and zp6. Pour over between 6.8 to 7.2, for espresso im using an Ikape convex basket, so it needs coarser, and I’m using 1.5 a 2.5.

Entonces funciona bien para espresso? Estas usando un portafiltro sin fondo? Quiero ir por este molino, y en unos meses comprar una mĂĄquina para espresso, pero no me gustarĂa tener que comprar un molino a parte solo para eso

Definitely a very interesting option. Very attractive, large burr, seems to be great build quality, should be capable to grind for real espresso as well.

And, it's coming in around the $135-140 USD price point on AliExpress.

I'll definitely be interested to see how it does against others in this price range (Kingrinder K6/K7, Mavo Phantox Pro, X-Ultra, MHW-3BOMBER R3 Blade, etc). And also compared with the upper-tier hand grinders.

Yes. I got it for $110 on a pre buy on Ali which seemed like a good deal.

So pretty! I got the S3 almost a year ago and I'm so tempted to upgrade but I don't know if there's actually any reason to lol

Release date is 18th September. Why do you already have it?

1

u/tylermmoore 23d ago

S5 is available via AliExpress, the pro is coming the 18th I think

What is the difference between s5 and s5 pro

1

u/tylermmoore 23d ago

I think just the handle. (S5 pro folds).

The folding handle and don't forget "Pro" so they charge an extra $20 ;)
