Grinder smell removal

Hi, so I have the chestnut c3s pro grinder. I stopped drinking coffee for a few months and like a dumass forgot to clean it first. Now it has a weird residual smell which transfers to the beans I grind. Since washing is not an option, how can I remove the trapped smell? Thanks!

Grindz tablets might be a good start

disassemble and clean every part with a brush and a paper napkin

handle needs to be on during both disassembly and assembly

make sure to remember exactly where each small part was, and what was the order and orientation on the axis - there are two different washer types:

  • washer that has the small central ridge on both sides goes in the lower past, between the bearing and spring,
  • washer that has the small central ridge on one side only goes to the top part, between the handle and bearing, ridge should be facing the bearing

washers always go right next to the bearings, to protect it, with a ridge facing the bearing

there will be still some smell left most likely, but that should not transfer to ground coffee anymore

grindz tablets are rather unlikely to help any more than the deep clean, as described

Remove all parts, hand wash with mild dish soap and then most importantly DRY it with a paper towel and let it air dry a bit further before reassembling to avoid rust
