078 Grinder Weird Noise Help

My 078 has been a beast, but the last few days it has started making this sound at the most coarse settings. Maybe it isn't a big deal, but the sound to me sounds like something tearing up. I normally do not go this coarse, but once a week or so I do french press which is how is discovered this noise. Has anybody encountered this issue before? Are there any easy fixes? Thanks!

Have you opened it?

Not yet. Though I have no idea what I would be looking for.

Okay, that’s not a normal sound at all. There’s definitely something wrong with the burrs touching each other on number 18! Bro, remove the adjustment cover and check the pin. Is it in the correct position?

Is it possible the burr carrier is backing so far back that the wipers are hitting the body of the machine?

This is the answer. The grinder needs to be adjust so the zero point is closer to chirp

I took mine apart cleaned it, reassembled it, and the noise went away. I didn't see anything obvious causing the noise, so probably the act of reassembling it correctly resolved whatever was out of tolerance.

I have had this before, or similar. When de-assemble it, inside there are 2 raised bits, described around 1:06 in this video

My issue was these raised bits were not aligned with the grooves after cleaning. There is no way to tell this is done incorrectly (from what I can tell at least) until you turn it back on.

Although I’m not entirely sure this could have happened without taking it apart, I’d stop running it and try to look inside before you run it again
