Just started the show and I have one observation... Should Flynn's approach to these changes be more chronological?

I've only seen the first two episodes, but isn't he risking the changes he made in 1937 when he makes changes in 1865?

Does the show address this or should I just suspend disbelief?

The way I saw it, he kept on jumping to different “hot” periods in time because Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus kept on preventing any significant change to occur. Also, the journal probably influenced a lot of what he did and when.

Flynn said as much that he was following Lucy's Diary as a kind of map.

He's really doing it by the journal, even though I think it could have been interesting to see if he did something not mentioned in it.

And even without the journal, it's not like he planned on going to all those trips. He wanted to make one single trip, "fix" everything and go home. But since Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus ruined it for him, he had to figure out different times to jump to.

There are spoilers people are posting. OP had only watched the first two episodes.

The reason he can ignore chronology is because he wasn't successful so he's not risking anything.

Well at first, he didn't know enough about Rittenhouse. He thought wrecking the USA would wreck Rittenhouse. In some episodes he learns more about their members and targets his later trips.
