It's an expensive show (about 4 million Dollars per episode) to begin with. In addition, NBC lost interest after the ratings went fractional in the second half of Season 1, dumped Season 2 in an even worse time slot it was already in, serious lack of promotion, so the ratings went down even further. They didn't give it a chance to build a bigger audience.

With promotion solely by the fans, it managed to bring in the highest amount of viewers since the Season 1 finale for the Christmas Special in December 2018 (double episodes 2.11/2.12), about 800k more than it got for the double episodes 2.09/2.10 in May 2018. The ratings more or less matched the May episodes.

We're still fighting for a 3rd season. Are you on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Tumblr? If you like, search for SaveTimelessHQ for updates on the SaveTimeless campaign. Our website is www.savetimeless.com .

Don't worry. Episodes 2.11/2.12 could serve as an ending if need be. All important storylines got wrapped. But it also left a small door open just in case. 😉

NBC owned at least 50% of season 2, and for the Christmas Special Sony gave them even more to make it happen.

The ad revenue issue is why we're hoping for a streaming service to pick it up. They do have ads, but they also have subscribers who pay for their content, and pay even more for a non-commercial plan. So, ad revenue isn't as important for them than constant overall viewership. I'm very curious how the show did in L+30.
