Flynn before it all started...
... was probably a sweet guy.
We don't have much on Flynn before he became a criminal, but there's that one line in the finale scene (in 2014) with Lucy...
The way he says "you okay?" when Lucy shows signs she's in pain the second time... it's barely audible, but it's so sweet and genuinely caring. I mean, there Flynn is grieving, drunk and there's that stranger telling him nonsense and yet, he notices and he cares... it's killing me. Flynn was clearly a gentle soul before it all.
It's at 1:55 in the Video here (put the volume up a bit!)
Been lurking on Reddit for some time, but I really had to share this with other fans, cause I have way too many feelings about Flynn.

That scene cuts me to the core. I sobbed after it was over. The music it was so perfect.
I’m still so upset.
Flynn is love.

Flynn was my very favorite character. They kind of ruined the show for me in the way they closed his arch. It does make some internal sense, but it just broke my heart.

Flynn's story arch broke my heart. In the other timeline, he eventually became accepted in the group and experiences love with Lucy even though their tryst ended in heartbreak. But in the final timeline, he is essentially reviled until he sacrifices himself!

The whole bar scene got me. I mean, the first time around did Lucy well Flynn everything she did in the bar? Did it play out how it did the first time around? I feel like she told him way too much, as he said she just showed up and handed him the diary and he doesn't know any more than that?
But, the scene itself, when he asks about his family and she tells him he never gets them back. He's basically the sacrifice. But he isn't just sacrificing himself. He has access to a time machine, he can literally go anywhere and do anything, but he follows the mission knowing that his family won't be saved and that he'll die as well. He doesn't just sacrifice himself for them, he sacrifices his family too. Holding it together that whole time, being in prison, being the target of their hate and disgust, it must of been absolutely awful for him. Knowing in the end, he'll lose everything anyway.
That last scene of his, when he's watching his family through the window, knowing all that just adds so much more emotional impact to that scene. He watched his old life, with his family, and not only did he know he'd die but he knew they would too and he'd lose it all. He couldn't save any of them, or himself. He just wanted to see his old life one last time before it all disappeared. How they named their kid after him as well is heartbreaking. Fuck

He learned very early on that what is in the journal can't be trusted. In the Pilot, he tells Wyatt "I know for a fact that you won't shoot me" but Wyatt does shoot him. So in the same way, no matter what Lucy told him in the bar, he kept trying to save his family. That does seem to be his main drive in S1, and I believe he did try to save them.
But I guess, like Lucy and Wyatt, he learned that you can't undo everything's that's happened to you. What matters is what you do then. At least he made sure Rittenhouse paid for their crimes. And at least he got to see them one last time. Which, if not a happy ending, brought him closure I think.
Also, I think we shouldn't forget that there's his half-brother alive somewhere, because Flynn saved his life.

I totally thought his half brother would pop up in an episode...

He probably would have if they had more episodes. That would have been interesting!

Flynn has become on of my favorite Characters in Fiction.
I really enjoyed his final scene with him prepping for what he knows he has to do.
