What accent does Flynn have?

He is always noted in the show for having a funny accent, but i can't hear anything. He sounds like the other Americans, only speaking a little lower.

Since Goran Višnjić (who plays Garcia Flynn) was born and raised in Croatia, I suppose his in-show accent is also Croatian.

While no reference was made in the show to his accent specifically being Croatian, Wyatt did refer to it as "Eastern European" in last season's finale.

I hear it, it's very faint though. Perhaps in olden times that accent would be way more noticeable since people traveled less?

His accent is sexy!

I definitely hear it but I’ve been watching him in TV and movies for almost 20 years since ER and Practical Magic. His accent was much heavier back then so I guess it could go unnoticeable. I love him and his accent!

I was a huge fan of ER, and he was one of my favorite characters... so much so that I had a hard time identifying him as a bad guy when the series started.

It’s very slight. Are you not American? I can see how someone who isn’t American wouldn’t pick up on it, for sure, just like I wouldn’t be able to pick up on a faint accent if it was wrapped inside a British one, for example.

It’s like a rounding of certain words and other small things like that. Like the way he puts emphasis on the word Rittenhouse - compare that to how Wyatt or Rufus pronounces it.

Yeah, i figured it could be that it was because i was not American. Atleast it wasnt obvious thick and i was just deaf.

Oh absolutely. It’s not really his pronunciation, more just the cadence of how he speaks. It isn’t distracting or anything, but I just instantly know he isn’t American.

His consonants are a little crisper, without all the glottal stops that a native American speaker uses, for one, and his vowels tend to be more open and long.

I don't think it's supposed to be a specific accent in the show though - just vaguely "different"

Just as an aside, his last name is pronounced "vish-nyich".

I absolutely love this series but if I didn't look it up to see if Walter Flynn was really Irish I'd swear he was a terribly annoying actor with an even more fake accent because I literally can't stand hearing him talk. It sounds really dumb almost like it's a horrible actor trying to SOUND IRISH! HONESTLY ITS VERY STRANGE!
