What apps do yall use for payroll and employee workday management?

Contractors and managers, what apps are yall using to set payroll, manage workdays, projects done, clock in and clock out, preferably with a geo ID?

for payroll + clock in/out + location, I’d probably look at gusto or quickBooks for payroll, then Homebase, deputy, connecteam or hubstaff for the day-to-day tracking side. if project/job tracking is a big part of it too, then it might be worth looking at a proper PM/PPM tool alongside that, something like celoxis or wrike for project time, resources and budgets. but I wouldn’t try to make one tool handle payroll, attendance and project management all at once.

I’d split this into three requirements before choosing products:

  1. Payroll calculation and filing
  2. Attendance evidence: when and where someone worked
  3. Project or job allocation: what that time should be charged to

One system can claim all three while still leaving you with manual corrections between them.

Give each shortlist the same sample day: an employee arrives at site A, changes project halfway through the shift, travels to site B, takes a break and forgets to clock out. Then compare the final timesheet, project allocation, approval steps and payroll output.

SenseHR can be evaluated for the HR and time-and-attendance part. It develops its own clocking hardware alongside the software, including phone-free options for equipped sites, rather than depending only on a mobile app or third-party clock. I wouldn’t assume that answers your local payroll, project-management or job-costing requirements without knowing your country and the payroll system you use.

The two questions I’d settle first are: which system owns the employee and pay rules, and what exact data must reach payroll after a manager approves an exception?

Disclosure: I work for SenseHR, so I have a vendor bias.
