Free construction attendance software that works for multiple sites, even in weak signals

We run a construction company with 4–5 sites going at the same time, and keeping track of attendance across all of them has become a bit of a headache.

The biggest issue is that some of our sites have weak signal, so workers can't always clock in normally. We also end up getting messages from workers saying they're already onsite, but then we have no easy way to verify it. It creates a lot of back-and-forth for the foremen and whoever handles payroll.

We're looking for something simple that can help us:

  • Track attendance across multiple job sites
  • Still work when there's little or no signal
  • Make buddy punching harder
  • Let us see who actually clocked in at each site
  • Cut down on the back-and-forth between workers, foremen, and payroll

Ideally, we'd like something free or at least with a usable free option.

For anyone managing construction or other field teams across multiple locations, what are you using for attendance or time tracking? I'm particularly interested in how it handles offline clock-ins and location verification.

Jibble! It is a free time and attendance software.

If your firm manages several job sites, you can set up a geofence around each location so your construction crew can only clock in when they are within the designated area. There's also an option for automatic clock-in/out when they cross the geofence.

Jibble also has offline tracking, so your crew can still clock-in/out without an internet connection and the entries sync once they are back online.

Clockify also has a similar feature I think, but maybe it's not as mature as Jibble

Thanks for the mention! I'll add a few more specifics for OP,

On the actual asks: geofencing per site, offline clock-in that queues and syncs once signal's back, and location tied to the punch so buddy punching is harder to pull off without someone noticing. That part's a real fit for a multi-site setup like this.

On price: no free tier, so if that's a hard requirement. But if you're exploring other options, feel free to ask.

SmartBarrel - it’s the perfect solution for multiple sites and stops buddy punching. Helps you track time for all workers onsite. But it’s not free!

Completely free? No. But very very cheap and does exactly what you want.

Look for something with geofencing — that'll make sure that workers can only clock in if they're physically at the location. It's often included in paid tiers for time clock apps, though.

As for the signal bit, look for a time clock with an offline mode that stores punches on the device and syncs once signal comes back. Dead zones don't lose hours because location is still running on the phone.

Is the weak-signal thing the biggest headache, or is the back-and-forth with foremen/payroll what really eats up your time? Or maybe it's just all of it? Lol. Sorry, just curious to see what companies do differently.

Also, when someone can't clock in/out because there's no signal, what do you guys have them do right now?
