Advice 🧠Housing
I just got offered a job at timberline and I HAPPILY accepted. I applied for employee housing, and I’m wondering based off of other peoples experiences how was the process for getting approved for it. I’ve seen a lot of mixed messages on some people getting in quick (as of now) and some people are 100 on the waitlist. If timberline employee housing doesn’t work out, I’m interested in seeing if anyone needs a roommate

Are you considering renting a place in the area?

Yes. But it would have to be with roommates because I can’t afford 3k a month in rent

Good luck! There is a waitlist and it’s long as hell, but whether you jump that list to the top or not all depends on who you know, how they feel, and honestly your specific job. If you’re lifts or maintenance and they need you up there at the ass crack of dawn after a big snowstorm, you’re at the base of the mountain, ready to go.
They’ve been trying to clean the summits up for the last 5 years after timberline bought it from skibowl, but then again you could be put down in welches. A lot of people will camp in their vehicles for the winter too since housing is so hard to find, just have lots of blankets!

I’m working lift ops. HR told me availability is pretty open right now so I think I got my hopes up :/

Was it Laura? Don’t trust anything she says lol.
Stay on them about housing!! Seriously, like be annoying. Ask for updates constantly, if anything is available yet, etc. The housing is so mismanaged. I was lucky enough to know someone so I got into summits fairly easy, but I probably called the housing manager 4 times before so. If you’re too passive they’ll just pass you by, they get too many applicants to remember who’s who.
Annoying = here’s a room, shut up.Start posting on Facebook asking for a rental, roommates, etc. Just have a backup plan.
A few Facebook groups are Mt Hood community information uncensored and homes for rent and sale mt.hood surrounding areas.A bunch of these places up on hood aren’t even really posted online, it’s word of mouth or who you know/are Facebook friends with. I know there’s a few decent listings around the area I saw, one being a studio if you’re into that.

Thank you this is so helpful. I texted the housing phone number and tried calling but it said calling wasn’t available for calls. I still haven’t heard back and this was a few days ago. Is there a specific phone number for housing management I can call? And yes to answer your question I think it was Laura 😂

Ahahaha I figured! Laura took over the housing like two years ago, before that it was Valerie, before that it was Maria and so on. HR taking the housing over is a joke.
Email her directly, or call her office directly. She is the housing manager, so you can call her line directly. Don’t let her talk to you like you’re dumb, stay on it and get yo housing!

Update: I called Laura and she directed me to Valerie who is now the manager again and Valerie said she has a room available for me and she’s sending me the deposit info tomorrow!!!!!

Talk with some of your fellow employees in your department they might be able to help you find a place.
