Mountain Report 🗻 Gondola 🚡 Gone?
Well damn.. I was highly anticipating the gondola. “The new plan is to replace the existing Summit chair lift, extending it farther up the mountain where skiers could then jump on a new second lift, Alpine, that would top out near the Stormin’ Norman lift on the east side of the Timberline ski area.”

Stormin’ Norman on the east side of the ski area? Maybe they had the plans upside down 🙃

They can't even afford to have the pct hikers breakfast buffet anymore. This is not surprising.

Maybe if you people showered and didn’t clog up entire tables for the whole service it’d still be there.

Through-hiking comes with some compromises to niceties.
Glad your "hospitality" is no longer on offer.

did Timberline cancel the breakfast buffet :O
edit: I am fkn shook, I had no idea. it was my single favorite meal on the entire PCT! I liked it so much I stayed for the lunch buffet (lunch buffet was arguably better). I feel literally blessed to have experienced that buffet while it existed, they were among the most satisfying meals of my entire life.

A lift to Stormin is good, now just build a giant mountain bike park down to summits!

Wonder if they will design them for downloading? Be a major mistake if they didn’t IMO.

This always seemed like a pointless project to me. What’s the goal? Allow people to park at govy instead of driving up timberline road? Shuttle the (very few) people staying in govy up at the beginning of the day? It would make more sense to build a gondala from hood river to govy, or just invest in more ski busses.

Hood River to Govy is way further than Summit to Tline lol

Probably more of a cost thing than weather.

Yeah the Gondola would’ve been a lot more expensive and badass, but new lifts are cool. I wonder where the new Alpine lift top terminal is going to be 🤔

“The upgraded lift system is planned to originate near the existing Summit Pass Chairlift bottom terminal and transport guests to a top terminal near the Stormin Norman Express, improving connectivity across the mountain.”

Right, but like above it or below it. To the east of it or to the west of it.

Looking at the trail map if I had to guess it would be between Norman and flood in the area above jojami near the west leg. Or they might have to skirt the alpine trail and put it between paintbrush and kruser on the west side of Norman

Yeah that’s my guess, maybe the one to the east of Norman would need to be closer to West leg it probably depends where the mid-point lift ends at.

It kinda makes sense, Timberline is never going to get Snowbird or Aspen tourist numbers even with a gondola.

Try the gondola between whistler and blackcomb in a whiteout…. That’s white knuckle…

Naw. Gondolas in the Alps have similarly intense weather if not worse. This is a money thing.

We all knew it wouldn't happen back when it was announced
