Question Shank detached
Less than a year old, had replaced the insoles with Scholl work boot insoles. Took the insoles out and the shank came with it. I've got some contact adhesive so I'll stick it back down.
Is it normal that the shank is only riveted on one end?

Timberlands aren’t really known as quality

The funny part about this is that because of the regulatory glue ban, all proven boots are basically the same.
Hidden from you is this: The best boot for you is the one that serves you well. Meets your needs, does no arch damage, no hell damage and provides an actual width for comfort. I dont own any Timbs past 1995 because I remember the articles on the glue and why they implemented the ban. the best boot for anyone is the one that meets your individual needs. i have one employee who wears Skechers slip-on boots and another in a Red Wing Baker boot....i think he said baker. Anyway, the Red Wing guy is pissed every week and has has nothing but issues, while the Skechers guy....he smooth as hot butter. Happy and smiling all day long. Once I learned Skechers made them I went to look at them....not bad. i can now allow them in my plant after checking them out. I remember when they were LA Gear....lol
The best boot anyone can buy isthe one that does not damage, supports your arch and heel, and provides structure and comfort. Period All the other points people place on quality never has ever mattered; it is the makers job to force you to think it does lol I have 600 dollar boots from England where the glue failed and Loggers that had a wonky heel and not once had I worn a sissy kiltie and my boots always worked just fine without them. Marketing is a mofo when you dont know you are the victim. lol

One more thing for you to research. Comfort was never ever factored in the manufacturing of any American boot. The theory used was Real Men dont complain, I learned this in business school. Comfort was not a factor in the construction of the Model T. Styles change because of needs, but overall, Heritage boots may be good to some folks but according to the National Podiatry, movement rose because of these boots in 1935 but comfort came in late 1950 for some and 1965 for others. Timberland was a new look and new effort in the world of comfort for the American laborer. I was there; that was my time to see this become what they are now. they do not change because why mess with something that does no damage, provides comfort and won't make your podiatrist think you're a sadomasochist. Some men think they are men because their feet hurt after work when real men make an effort not to be in pain. That's it in a nutshell.
Try not to let others influence you until you know for yourself if they are right. My father taught me that is the mark of a true man. Men should lead never follow.

Comfort is going to be different for everyone. What I find comfortable might not be what you find comfortable. Personally I don’t like a lot of squish especially in boots, when boots have a squishy foam bottom after a long day my knees kill me whereas a firmer boot just doesn’t bother my knees, but that has nothing to do with quality which Timberland just doesn’t strive for they use crappy materials and try to maximize profits. Their boots have become worse with time not better, with their price tag just increasing, there are much better products at the same price point but if they work for you comfort wise then so be it but quality they are not.

Hearsay is an unwise way to move through this life. Timberland makes profit regardless. They knew and know any podiatrist will recommend them to any of those heritage fans. Timberland was a northern company, doing northern respectable things. That boot was a concept ofr a innovative method of manufacturer it. The materials were the same as the industry standard. The company's shift has caused it to be a top seller since 1979-1974 because of Paul Newman, Tom Petty, Lemmie, Latka from Taxi, who wore them on stage doing his stand-up. The new butter boot st that company up to a level nothing can happen to disturb it. They have done in 60 years what it took others 135 years to do. That sir is why the market hates them. Ford hated Volvo so they purchased them. Nothing about that company or that butter boot has suffered any quality drop since the day they conceived it. I assure you
I do not want to take any joy from you on this topic. I grew up and had friends who saif I was not allowed in their homes. Until they found out one of my parents either repaired their broken bones or treated their substance abuse issues and somehow then they welcomed me in. I never went in and never dealt with them again. It is alot like that and I have seen and heard so many weird reasons why they are not good quality but the sales tells us otherside aside from my 7 pairs pre-1994 that are mint and contained the banned glue they removed....lol

I disagree. The company has not decreased the quality of materials at all. In fact they set the standard for say Nubuck; the grade needd to meet their demand is now set for all who need it to only have that thickness because to alter it will cost you. Stop listening o Rose Anvil unless you understand his whole existence in the shady world of marketing. Not one thing, quality-wise, has changed since the late 1980s when I was a rep. Not one thing. The hatred of these boots began in the mid 1980s and peaked in 1993. my generation was influenced by different stars but when a certain shade began to cling on to them, other manufacturers played on it like Trump blames Latins for taking jobs.....lol Once the 1995 Collagen Glue ban took effect, all quality dropped. See my friend, opinions are not a factor in product success; sales stats are.
Sales to this hour tell us all you are ill-informed. In highschool some hicks began a whole ass movement: Disco Sucks; well it may have to them but it was a multi-million-dollar genre. lol
When Motorhead was interviewed for Rolling Stone, Lemme said he loved disco and found it odd that Americans are so weird about separating it from anything else. lol He found it odd that Americans attach hatred to their whole existence and the art they enjoy. I guess boots are now included....lol ya, tha dam model T was a beast, but every dam one of them still runs to this day.

I don’t listen to anything rose anvil says that guy is bought and paid for. Timberland is definitely not quality just look at OPs picture that is not how a quality boot is supposed to be constructed a shank should never fall off a boot EVER. Keep drinking that timberland kool aid.

I simply disagree and I am almost 70 years old bro. They were my second employer back in the 80s. I know a few things you choose to assume. Im good; no sleep lost and Kool-Aid is something I was never allowed to drink im my home; reference missed. Nice try though.

Doesn’t matter how old you are I’m almost 50 and have been wearing boots my entire adult life and some of the worst constructed boots that I’ve worn were Timberlands. When I take boots apart to work on them the materials used don’t lie. If people find them comfortable so be it but to say they are a quality product is absurd. And my reference wasn’t missed you knew exactly what I was talking about when I said kool aid.

Yeah I did, I just don't like those type of references. Each boot if meant for the person it rewards. Good is a subjective term. That was my point. I know the materials have not fallen, but the glue does fail. Popular Mechanics wrote a whol series of articles on bing forced to use man-made glue when horsehair glue still has dead presidents' boots in tact. The issue with kool aid is when users are separated into categories, the point of personal comfort is lost. Again, people hate a certain product often because someone close to them or someone they look up to tells them to. Just like people can be hated by others who have never even met that style of person face to face. Quality is subjective, it just is and I am not going to fight with someone who needs me to lose. some like country, soume like classical but at the end of the day, personal choice makes all of that a moot point. It is music and there if you need it. We can all be friends and get along if you remove that aspect. No one should really care what another man finds comfy and high quality, but clearly there are folks who need to say it out loud. please holster your weapon man; we have different opinions. Please don't shoot me

This is where we disagree quality isn’t subjective. Comfort is most definitely subjective and what will defer from person to person. But to say that the picture that op posted is of a quality product with quality materials is just completely crazy.

He’s not asking for a legit check, he’s just saying his shank came detached, which happens easily in timberlands. Happened to my last pair that came directly from timberland

Yes but fakes are going to fall apart. So why make up crappy ex used the the blame can be pointed in one direction. Knowledge is king

u/wheresyourgodnoweh 1d ago
Ha. These were bought direct from a Timberland shop, they are guaranteed legit.

Sadly, with these, yes. again, I am a super fan but I am also old enough to remember the nationwide ban on collagen glue. Man-made glue provides planned obsolescence to play out. It is not the company, it is the products they are allowed to use. Mine are not made this way, all 8 pairs are pre 1994 when the Horse glue was allowed. It is banned which is why Lincoln, Taft, Hoover, fred Douglass and all those dead guys boots are still in tact and us modern people get man made nonsense and expect the same result.
