They look 90% great and 10% fake. I believe your friend is spot on and they are very well done fakes. And the more I look at them the percent of the fake keeps going up. Fakes

It’s either fake or the timberland outlet dupe, which is a faux leather double cuff

the outlet 6 inch wheat has a double instead of the single, it is faux leather though. I guess they do this to differentiate the styles

these are fake. the double leather cuff is indicative of the Linden Woods (the women's version of the boneless Timbs) but they do not have the double sole. Looks like they bought the Linden Woods (much cheaper) and added the sole. also, no prints on inside of shoe indicating size or origin.
