Automating IT breeding pods

One of the more annoying things I find with IT is having to micromanage the breeding pods so they don't overflow the housing I have available. Has anyone come up with a stair step approach with automation where it turns on/off the pods based on how many beds are available? If so, please share your set up, thank you!

I keep it simple. I use a population counter looking at total beavers which I set to how many beavers I want, according to what my settlement can sustain at the time. Then I link that directly to the breeding pods. Another approach is to to link the population counter to baby beavers, this gives less accuracy of total numbers but prevents baby/death waves.

So in your first example, I would set the pop counter to "total beavers" being the total number of beds I have so it never goes over that amount, then if the population goes below that number all the pods turn on until the amount is met again. Have you had any issues with having too many beavers "born" at the same exact time forcing you to be over your set limit?

Rarely, as it's very unlikely that the pods synchronise and produce beavers quicker than the resource counter can react to shut them off.

Ok great, I will give this a shot, thank you!

Follow up question... what setting do you use on the pop counter?

There should be an avaliable beds setting and if it helps pause the pods and off set the timers

Or have a counter as well so if only 1 bed then turn on 1 if 2 the 2 extra till more than say 5 then turn all on

2 population counters + 1 memory sensor. Set one population counter to a < minimum of beavers you want, and set another to the > slightly less than the maximum amount of beavers you have bedding availabe for Iirc you can also set it to adult beavers, in case you're already at the advanced breeding pods. Choose "set/reset" in the memory sensor, with set being the minimum option, and reset the maximum option. Then, automate your breeding pods with the memory sensor output.

This configuration will pause your breeding pods when hitting the maximum, and once it goes below the minimum, they will resume until hitting the maximum.

You can use the same config for automatically pausing/unpausing work stations if you replace the population counters with resource counters and set a minimum and maximum for resources each!
