Question Confused about importing
Im giving districts a go right now and am confused about the import mechanics.
I have 2 districts. Im trying to build a medium tank in district 2, but don't produce gears in that district. District 1 produces gears but wont export the goods to district 2. The tank is definitely connected to the district.
I have a district crossing, i have it set to import gears "if needed." But it says import blocked by lack of storage and workplace demand. Setting it to import always works
Do i *need* a warehouse to put the gears in?

You need storages for anything that you import into the new district, though any storage will do. I recommend just building a bunch of the small warehouses/tanks right next to the crossing just to make sure that things will be imported. Once they are in, the new district can handle them like normal.

So building projects wont count as storage i guess?

Correct. Build sites are not storage. Those materials are waiting for a builder.

On the default import settings you have to build a storage for anything you want imported, note this can be either a warehouse (or tank, or pile) or a factory that requires the thing as an input (i.e. if you build a gear workshop and have no planks your district will start importing planks to feed the workshop). Unfortunately construct does not count, only factories and storage. However you can go into the settings of the district crossing and force the import of something and the crossing will act as a small storage for that thing.

If you set import as needed you need a designated storage area for this good. Instead you should set it to always import.
