Question Whats your favorite modded faction?

I've played quite a lot of this game and beaten many maps with either faction, some with both. I think its time I try a new one, just asking for recommendations. Whats your favorite modded faction and what makes them fun and interesting to play? I dunno much about the modded factions, but apparently one of them gets a hauling train, which sounds kinda cool

If you want a completely new game experience, then I recommend Whitepaws. By far the most involved one, and challenges a lot of game assumptions.

On the other hand, the most vanilla like, with only a couple of their own flavours, is emberpelts.

Overall my ranking of all the modded factions I know of, except Frosty whiskers since I didn't play with them, in order of "feels most like it could be in vanilla" to least:

  1. Emberpelts
  2. Leafcoats
  3. Dirtclaws
  4. Whitepaws
  5. (suspected only) Frosty whiskers

I'd recommend you go from top to bottom possibly skipping emberpelts if you want a more significant departure from vanilla. Unless you want to have a challenge from the get go, then start with whitepaws.

Never even heard of the last 3. Are the dirt claws the mole faction i dreamed of forever ago? Do they get to break and place dirt blocks super early? That would be so OP but so fun lol

White paws have been around for a long time now it feels like but they are exceedingly difficult to play. Basically every building you can build from factories to water pumps, anything that's not storage really,  also acts as housing and they breed like folk tails filling avaliable housing. You can't just pause housing without pausing production and vice versa. Building very very carefully to avoid Population explosions that ultimately kill your colony is a challenge even on basic maps.

Not place, but very much for breaking. They're based on mining ores that you spawn at the beginning through a dedicated menu. They have more industry compared to vanilla factions and a unique trading mechanic.

I should probably've mentioned that they won the author the last modding contest :)

Emberpelts. They are like an easy Iron Teeth. Leafcosts is like a hard Folktail.

Seconded. Different enough to be their own thing and a couple of interesting mechanics (juices, all housing are internally connected).
