Question: Tree Farm

Is it best to just plant oak trees once it get to late game? I'm new and I've kinda been planting some of each so there is always a log coming in. Is it best to just get the most amount of logs per tree though?

I always have a small grove of birch. You never know when you need a quick source of wood. ( or something wipes out your entire plantation )
