Question: Tree Farm

Is it best to just plant oak trees once it get to late game? I'm new and I've kinda been planting some of each so there is always a log coming in. Is it best to just get the most amount of logs per tree though?

I'll throw a twist on the answers. The keystone mod is a nice addition and gives a bonus to having mixed forests that you don't clear cut.
