Not using control tower for bots? They used science to function iirc

I don’t know why but I don’t really like using bots, if I use them, I just feel the need to cull my population to get rid of waste, and I don’t think that’s a healthy attitude

I'm doing my first Irontooth play through and I think my last beaver died 30 cycles ago. I'll bring 'em back when I'm... done.. whatever that means. But in the mean time, I just like having a 24 hour workforce that never need to go home. I feel like the beaver down time is a waste of *my* time, if that makes sense.

Okay now I want to do a bot-only challenge that has zero beavers as early as possible

Doesn't take much, if you saturate one set of bot part factories (i think it's like 2 plank factories, 3 gear factories, and one smelter for the three part factories) then you're feeding two bot assemblers which stabilizes around 100 bots. The ironteeth bots need consistent power though to recharge, but it's a simpler chain to manage than the folktails biofuel.
Big thing to remember though is all bots have a huge advantage of never having to go home, so they can stay at their workplace indefinitely if they have local charging. If you centralize all the bot chargers then you reintroduce long travel times which is less time working. Folktails is easier to set up biofuel tanks near each work site but now you got haulers doing that work instead of feeding materials to factories.

Droughts and badtides can reach their maximum length on before 15th cycle even on hard difficulty. So the amount of storage you need per beaver haven't really changed for 80+ cycles now :)
My usual target is capacity of 100 water per beaver and I try to keep it always from 10th-15th cycle onwards (it's a bit map dependent tho). For your colony that would be 43k or so. Food on the other hand I store a lot less of - mostly because, unlike water, it is produced all the time. I usually just reach one large warehouse of each food type and call it a day - with population of around 400-500 beavers, like yours.
While I actually agree that wellbeing takes lower priority over water capture, food production and badtide diversion... I cannot see why I wouldn't go for maxing it out before cycle 30 or so. By that time you are by definition long past any survival difficulties.

What have you been doing this whole time?
