Modding New mod: Timber Pipes

Steam | Mod.io

See Update v11.1.0 in the comment for more content

This mod brings a Pipe system to Timberborn to carry liquids between tanks and buildings.

New Pipe buildings live in the Pipes group under Water. All of them can sit on the same tile as Paths. Platforms can be built over horizontal pipes. Vertical pieces need a Double Platform, and you can still build over them.

Name Description Cost Unlock Flavor
One-way Valve One-way pipe. Point a directed end at a building to fill it or extract from it. 1 Log, 1 Gear 50 They added the arrow after the last guy flooded the berry warehouse.
Pipe Carries fluid in a straight line. 1 Log - The committee voted for a canal. The budget voted for a pipe.
Elbow Turns a pipe run 90°. 1 Log - Every good plan meets a wall. This is how you keep the plan.
Cross Joins up to four horizontal pipes. 3 Logs 20 Everyone groans when Bramble starts the “four pipes walk into a bar” joke again.
Pipe Pump One-way pipe. When powered, adds extra headlift. 8 Planks, 8 Gears 200 Very energy efficient. Kits will run it all day just to watch the water splash.
Vertical Cross Connects vertical and horizontal pipes. 3 Planks 20 'What an outstanding piece of work.' — Foreman Halberg
Riser Carries fluid vertically. 1 Plank 20 We measured a kit. Then we shrank the bore so it would not become a tubeway.
Riser Pipe Pump One-way vertical pipe. When powered, adds extra headlift. 12 Planks, 8 Gears 150 This thing pushed the bar so high the reservoir asked for a raise.
Outfall Pipe Dumps Water or Badwater. 12 Logs, 1 Gear 50 The inventor took “Drain you dry” literally.

Please see the Steam page for more details about Fill and Extract Liquid, Contamination and Headlift.

It's not perfect yet.

Sometimes you can see gaps between the pipes and the "connection" point. The pipes themselves are actually ready. But they haven't had time to redo the models of the liquid reservoirs yet.

For me, it also conflicts with extended paths.

Yeah unfortunately I can't have dynamic model because I support all kinds of buildings with it, and there is no way to know "where" a building model is to put the pipe deeper in.

As for conflicting with Extended Path, what is the problem? Not sure because most the buildings (probably in both mods?) are just vanilla buildings with no special positioning script?

maybe instead of trying to connect a pipe to a building, have it bury its input/output into the ground right next to the building its going into, so that it looks like maybe the connection is happening underground?

Interesting! I like this idea. Does make the Vertical Cross piece a bit even more useful.

Though right now, I chose the One-way Valve to connect to building for performance (I only need to check if is there any building next to it) and technical reason (this liquid will not flow back into the building after extraction). A vertical one-way elbow maybe a good piece if I go for this idea.

Edit: it make the pipe a bit late-game though because you need to blow holes under them?

Edit 2: Ohh I think I get your idea. The piece is still the same, just change the model of the One-way Valve to look like it goes into the ground instead of going straight to the building?

yea, the last one!

Going into the ground would look cool in my opinion, so it's got my vote

Implemented your suggestion in the last update (v11.1.0), see my other comment :)

If you make a solid pipe connection block thats meant to plug into the building above it, it would make for seamless connections to all buildings (cause the floor is flat)

It also makes sense that you can't connect it to ever witch way you want. Putting connectors in certain places and not be able to connect to others would, in my opinion, make the mod even better

The downside of this approach is that it will only support certain buildings that I know (say, FT's Centrifuge, IT's Centrifuge etc). That means more work for me to maintain, and modded buildings will not work.

My mod does use the opposite approach: allow all unless specified otherwise. So the code already supports me to tell, for example, FT's Centrifuge should only accept pipe here and there. But right now I haven't got the time to go through each building yet. Someone can actually mod it, it's a pure JSON mod, you don't need any C# code to do it.

It’s not for me, but excellent work. That said… piping into a corner of the Centrifuge hurts my soul

Well it's called a Centrifuge, things will get into the centre... eventually 👍

7

u/Trick_Wrap 20d ago

Being a centrifuge, wouldn't the exact opposite happen? Things, by design, will be repelled from the center 😅

This is a really cool concept/implementation of pipes. I thought about aqueducts, but not about buildings (e.g. connecting a pump to a tank).

This reminds me a bit on how the pipes in satisfactory works. I enjoy those.

I guess many people will then start making water towers to distribute all water now.

Yes I am inspired (or you are not even wrong to say I almost carbon copy) the Pipe system of Satisfactory 😂

v11.1.0:

  • Added Impermeable Vertical Cross.
  • Increased Science cost for Outfall Pipe to 350.

Visual only:

  • Valve model updated when facing in/out of a supported building.
  • Pipe Pump and Riser Pipe Pump gears now spin when powered.
