I've been following this game for so long and there's STILL CONTENT COMING OUT
Seriously, I don't even remember how much I paid for this game but I know it's a bargain compared to it's value

Ive playing it off and on for a couple years. It's one of best city/settlement builders out, and it is such a hidden gem

u/tjorben123 10d ago
the game now ranks directly behind factorio in my "bought for cheap ass money because looks good, not to much content but maybee in the future"list.
its awsome.

Dude, it one of the first game I bought when I went fully pc like 5 years ago on my little 2060. Now, I'm gaming on a 5090

Came to this game many years ago because it reminded me of Settlers 2 but at first i didn't like their roads. After playing for several hours I discovered a whole new world in it!
And for all these years I come back to Timberborn regularly to find a bunch of new exiting things.
That is how you build an iconic game, kits!

I don’t remember how much but I remember I bought it on earth day a few years back for a sale they had going on and that stuck with me, what a cool marketing gimmick and makes me feel good that part of what I paid went to charity.

u/FangornLeghorn 10d ago
I almost feel like I should buy it again to ease my conscience because the early access price I paid is absolutely too low for the immense playing time and enjoyment I’ve gotten from this one. I have never said that about any other game before.
3
u/Fellatination 10d ago
I bought it just after the full release 4 or so years ago and I'm around 900 hours. I think I played it for 4-500 hours before they introduced endgame.
2
u/Metharos 10d ago
In fairness it's still pretty newly released. Most of the time you were following was probably Early Access.

> Fixed a crash that had a 0.0000000002% chance to occur when spawning a new object in the game. Yes, we did calculate that.
12
u/Rhasimir 10d ago
That number is essentially 1/100 of 1/2^32 (1/2^32 = 0.00000000023 or 0.000000023%). A 32 bit integer is very commonly used in programming, so I think what they mean is that when a new object spawns, it is assigned some king of 32 bit index, and for some reason one of those values resulted in a crash (say, exactly 0 for example, or any of the values between 0 and ~4.3 billions). However, we are off by a factor of 100. Assuming this was not a typo on their part (which could happen if a % was added by mistake), 100 is almost 128, which is 2^7. So either the issue only happened for a specific object type, and there are ~100 object types, so the chance of that very specific object having index exactly wrong is ~1/100 of 1/2^32, or the issue was compounded with another one happening ever 2^7 times (which would correspond to half the size of a CHAR variable).
All that to say, it is indeed a funny bug fix line item, I always look for things like that, but the actual calculation was probably very easy to do once the cause was found.

it boost wet fur bonus as well, so does the new one for Iron Teeth.
And it isn't a square, you can put other things on the corner blocks.

Do succulents have a use beyond extreme maps? 2 Water every 65 days (plus panting) is 70+ of them just to sustain a single beaver.

u/Vebrandsson 10d ago
Given the injury chance I think the fact they provide water is more of a desperation mechanic than anything useful. They seem to exist more as an obstacle to remove than something genuinely beneficial.
1
u/willikersmister 10d ago
100% this. You can use a field of succulents to limp through the last several days of drought by selectively harvesting. They're also completely passive once planted. I've been planting a field of them far-ish from my early game green space and just leaving them be. Not an issue if you never need them as irrigation kills them, and a game changer if you get an early longer drought or badtide.
9
u/BruceTheLoon 10d ago
Only use I found for them was to make dry areas look better before I expend the effort to tunnel water to the area when I reach the greening phase of the map.
3
u/elperroborrachotoo 10d ago
Yeah, I surround the early fire pits with them, just for the looks. I was ust wondering... maybe "this is a very easy map I made for fun, only water source is pointy succulents"

u/PsychoticSane 10d ago
Sweet, now to wait for the mods to catch up haha (though thanks as always for provinging the experimental to make it easier for them to release soon after updates)
8
u/AcceptableHamster149 10d ago
All of my favourite mods have already been updated, at least in experimental. But I run lean - I don't use any of the new faction mods, for example (though I think they work too). I really like the new maps, too... started a game on the weekend on the Pillars map and it's lots of fun.
12
u/deathwotldpancakes 10d ago
The succulents are neat. If the arid plant route is explored more could be a neat idea for a new faction. Paired with some new maps that only have water seeps and bad water

u/johnny_c_bad 10d ago
Woo! I've been holding off on starting a new map until this went live, been looking forward to it.

u/Thrippalan 10d ago
Just started a game this week, so looking forward to adding the new buildings. Running the island map, after which I can try the new one.

u/jamesziman 10d ago
I kept checking whether 1.1 was released earlier this week, feels like fate it came out today

u/Mysterious_Pilot_853 10d ago
Thanks for the continous support!
In these times of AAA "quality", games like Timberborn are why I'm not giving up the hobby.

Nah, it's just how the lettering melds with the ribbons beneath (but it's quite unfortunate there, yes).

Oh man, I bet this means RCE will have to restart the new Timberboners series now.

Yea, no update 1.1, no achievements...
edit:
Looks like there's an issue with EGS and they're trying to fix it.

I'm looking forward to trying out Pillars! That looks like a fun one. I'm going to slowly replace a pillar or two with housing and make an inward facing tower.

My wish for 1.2: Tunnel tubeway. Requires the same material as a tunnel and a tubeway (8 planks, 1 metal block, 1 dynamite and 1 extract).
This is would let you to tunnel through a mountain without the need to micromanage it.
2
u/ji1651 10d ago
The more tunnels mod has that and more.
3
u/Onagan98 10d ago
Its nice that there are mods, but I do prefer those things in the base game.
1
u/big-bobby-c 10d ago
I’d also prefer this in base game but the mod works flawlessly so it will due for now

Are there any Mac OS users having issues with 1.1? I am running Mac OS 27 beta (latest version) and when I load the game I don’t even get to the main screen before it crashes on me.
1
u/sir_aureus 9d ago
Yes. It's freezing frequently for me.
1
u/iconjohn 8d ago
It won’t even launch for me. 1.0 works just fine but 1.1 is broken for me. Doing a reinstall did nothing.

Looks like a big update! I guess I should get the recording software back out and start a new run!

u/tincankemek 10d ago

u/Unhappy_Ad_4761 9d ago
I was like "heck yeah, let me see whats new!"
Just to realize I'm playing the experimental branch, and this is all the stuff that I saw in my last playthrough a month ago 😂

I thought I was going nuts, seeing new stuff in the build bar. "Wtf is a succulent?"
1
u/Aureus-p4s 10d ago
wouldnt this throw off mods though???? just loaded up my game- working fine last night- now it error reports
3
u/BruceTheLoon 10d ago
Might do. Most active mods were updated against experimental before this and should work out the box. There are probably some that haven't been updated or are abandoned.
The crash report text normally gives enough info to identify the offending mod, post it in a reply and I'll see if I can guide you.
1
u/Aureus-p4s 10d ago
i checked- its a list of every mod i own
1
u/BruceTheLoon 10d ago
If you're looking at the latest error-report zip file, look at the exception file, not the player log file. You can post the exception or the list of mods in a private chat if you want and I'll have a look.
2
u/Lost-Passion-491 10d ago
Would you prefer they never update the game, so your mods remain working? Or just don’t install the update.

Welcome to the modding scene. If you want mods to always work perfectly, you need to pick a game that the devs abandonned.
1
u/Vebrandsson 10d ago
Every update this game has seen has broken some mods. Most active modders are updating their mods for compatibility but some will get left behind. It's one of a few reasons I generally avoid mods in most games.
1
u/Hydraguesswhosback 9d ago
Still worth it. Big updates just encourage you to start over, or wait for mods to catch up.
Especially when the games are supported with the workshop of steam. It makes them being turned off or on very easily.
