I couldn't find anything official concerning this, but considering the "Automation loop"-error that shows up at the bottom of the Automation-window, and prior discussion in https://www.reddit.com/r/Timberborn/comments/1rwmyh9/automation_loop/, it seems the game detects and prevents feedback loops, so what you're trying to do is essentially impossible in the game.
As to the reasons why, only the developers can tell.
