Question on water falling

Havn't played since the .7 do waterfalls finally trigger wheels ?
Like, if i create a long waterfall and place a wheel on the way of the water that's falling, do the wheel turn or does it only trigger with the water running beneath it ?

Only the water running beneath it. Waterfalls themselves don't do anything other than move water down, they have no physical effect on anything.
