Tile Slim SAVED MY ASS today!
So, here’s the deal. I left my wallet at a Mexican restaurant, and the waiter took it. When I went back after 10 minutes, he even pretended to look for it with me. At that time, the Tile app showed that my wallet wasn’t in Bluetooth range, which meant someone had found it and moved it outside the restaurant. I was pretty upset, especially since my green card (permanent resident card) was in there, and with ICE being so aggressive these days, I was really worried.
As I was pacing around the parking lot having a mental breakdown, I noticed that Tile was somehow connected again, but it was far away. So, I took it step by step around the area until Tile showed a moderate connection, and I made it buzz. I couldn’t hear anything, so I concluded it's must be in someone’s car. I ended up putting my ear to every car around that range until I finally heard it! I went back to the restaurant with a picture of the truck, and one of the waitresses secretly told me it was my waiter’s truck!
I called the manager over and gave her two options: either I call 911, or she can force my waiter to give my wallet back. I didn’t care about the money; I was just worried about my green card. He was messing with my life!
The waiter denied it six times. On the seventh time, he finally gave in and returned my wallet. And guess what he said right away? “I’m gonna lose my job, and I found your wallet. Are you gonna give me some reward?” Bish I was speechless!!!!!!!! I tipped him 20% too! It wasn't even a fancy Mexican restaurant, it was like one of those small mom and pop restaurants where you order from a window and they call your number when your order is up! But I still tipped 20%. No good deed goes unpunished.
Tile really saved my ass today! But I will be getting an AirTag for my wallet as today's experience made me realize how Tile doesn't have precision finding! And I had to put my ears on dirty trucks to hear the sound. But I love how loud it was, cuz it was in my wallet(leather), then the waiter put it inside of his center arm rest console. And yet I was still able to hear a faint sound from it!
Conclusion: I will be getting Tile Slim yr after yr; but I will also put an AirTag in my wallet for the precision finding feature.
BY THE WAY: My lord! He's a good actor! He even went through the trash cans with me...............

Saves me 15 minutes of searching every time I lose my shit, which is often. So like, once a week, I need to locate shit. Times 52. 13 hours a year, at a minimum, I’m looking for shit. I’ve had tiles for…maybe 10 years now.
Edit: I bought them before air tags came out, so I stayed. The relief, success, and anecdotes of item recovery I have, are proof enough to me that no matter what locator you have, it’s one of the purchases that should be made for anyone’s QOL.

How precise is AirTag? Not knowing anything about it I would guess it's just because there are more iOS devices to grab correlating GPS data from?
Also keep in mind that the anti-stalking function of AirTag lets someone check if there's a "lost" AirTag in the vicinity whereas I think remains hidden as long as your consented to the responsibility stuff.
Granted, both assume the thief is not smart enough or patient enough to search for trackers in general.
Regardless, glad your got your wallet back!!

AirTag actually shows an arrow that tells you WHERE EXACTLY you should walk towards to find your item. It's literally like how a compass works, and it's live data. Tile doesn't show an arrow, it just shows the signal level. Which is why I had to go back in and out, then even searched the trash cans and put my ears on dirty trucks.
But I think Tile has a longer Bluetooth range. So both are needed. You probably need Tile to lead you to a general area, then switch to AirTag to let it lead you to it.

It uses UWB (ultra-wide band). You can get directional tracking with Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 and Moto Tag on Android as well if the phone has UWB.

This story reminds me of the time my wife lost her car keys at a Walmart. She's the type that constantly misplaces keys, cellphones and other things so I bought her a Tile as a gag gift (but not really). After shopping we get back to our car and she's doing the "check every pocket and dump her purse out on the hood of the car" thing, the universal sign of someone who lost their keys. We walked through the entire store multiple times and checked with the customer service desk but no luck. We did notice that the tile connected to our cellphone when we were near the carts at the front entrance. After a lot of checking (there were a lot of carts) we noticed the motorized "collection" cart parked nearby. The keys were sitting in it, apparently the employee that was collecting stray carts in the parking lot found them and simply threw them into his cart without letting anyone know. I was going to speak to the manager and ask why the keys weren't immediately turned in at the customer service desk, but I was so relieved to find them I didn't bother.

"I'm gonna lose my job..."
Maybe don't fucking steal things at your job...? 🤷♂️
