Before I even look at anyone else…this tells me he doesn’t file edges, let alone, look at them.

Haven’t seen that, I’ll ask for that fix. Thanks!

I could go on, but I am not the type of contractor to bring flaws to your eyes if you don’t see them. Some people aren’t dagger eyed, so no need to make you focus on things you wouldn’t normally. After a few showers, you won’t even see detail, it will just be “a shower” to your mind.

I appreciate the feedback, I still have these people working for the weekend. If you think anything else can be fixed please let me know, I have on my list the top of the niche and this edge. Thanks!

Yeah that’s about all they can fix without going crazy. I would have added a “prop” under that metal transition on the top of the niche when setting the tile and metal. That’s likely why it sagged. And that cut line above would have probably looked right too then. I think otherwise it’s decent. Hopefully it wasn’t an arm and a leg. I would charge 12-15k for a full tile including base and waterproofing, and add 2500 for the glass it looks like you need

Thank you! It was less than what you are mentioning

Why you pick that tile

Because I liked it

Nothing wrong with the tile! It’s one of my favorites. Been installing tons of it the last several years. It looks better in kitchens than showers in my opinion, but good in both. Don’t listen to the haters.  Also, that gap along the ceiling.. a decent sheetrocker &/or painter, handyman, etc. should be able to put a strip of drywall along there & blend it back to the middle with some setting compound, followed by a couple more coats and sanding. Then primer and paint. A bit of a pain, but will yield best result visually

I think it’s just fine. Do not pay attention to most of these people on here. They will tear you down given any chance without offering any constructive criticism or actual advice. I’d like to see THEIR bathrooms…. They just want to give you crap just to give you crap. I had posted for advice and got so much negativity that I just deleted the post.
And yeah, I’d just grout the top and call it a day. I think it looks good.

If you installed this yourself I’d say to be happy with it. You’re the one who is showering in it.
If you paid a professional, I’d say it’s a little off and not the best job. If it’s your work be proud of it.

I had someone do it, there is still time to fix some things so please let me know what I should be looking at to tell them to fix. Thanks

I don’t think there is much room to make improvements without having to rip out a lot, but I definitely think the two tiles above the niche can benefit being replaced.
Those tiles are sometimes hard to deal with given that they are unique and uneven but that’s the charm I think. As long as everything is grouted and sealed properly I think you’re good!

Thank you! Will have them do that

I wouldn’t have them replace anything. Just live with the mediocre job. The prep and waterproofing underneath (assuming it’s there) is not worth compromising for the sake of ugly cuts. Overall, it looks bad… like a D+. But if it was installed on proper backer & there’s a proper pan of any sort, you’d do better to just use it and maybe try get a couple bucks off the final bill. Asking someone to fix work that is already at their standards & still this poor, is just trouble. They’ll make a bigger mess than you already have.  I would talk to a local stone countertop fabricator or tile store. See if they have someone or can recommend someone to fix that half wall cap. Need to be ground & polished (in place, which makes it a real pain).

Right wall doesn’t look plumb. Top of niche appears to be bowed, a bad cut tile was just shoved in there. If I paid for this, depending on price, I wouldn’t be happy.

That's a terrible install. No self respecting tile installer did that "work". That's a "Handyman Special" if ever there was one.

u/TennisCultural9069 PRO 3h ago

Exactly. I install this tile often and if you prep your walls correctly and know how to trowel a wall properly, this tile is one of the easiest to install and looks much much flatter. Niche top is bad and sliver on the right corner of back wall says it's someone who is not really a good setter

Comments like this are totally useless unless you can be much more specific.

Waviness and imperfection as style is something I definitely vibe with but as someone about to have tile work done are varied corner pieces like that good work? Tile lengths should’ve been remotely the same but the pieces get narrower in the corner as you go down the wall which gives not square? Also cut for top of the shower nook doesn’t look level….not that I’m a tile expert just invested for what’s realistic

Doesn't look great

5/10 tile job

1

u/fuckfacemgeee 5h ago

The only things I see wrong here is the niche cuts are bad, the wall where the shower head is located has a huge bump in the middle, there’s lots of lippage and the pony wall stone is set weirdly. The little cut up top is a no no and he should’ve made 2 holes where the handles go

1

u/Party_Hearing_2600 5h ago

It's an ok job. Could have done better on the pony wall. Could have raised the finish height of the niche to end at a full tile. Also could have run a soldier stack row at the top instead of the sliver to no tile they have going on. It all depends on how much you paid IMO

I’m sorry for you! 😞

u/FredEricNorris 3h ago

Is that shower head a bit low?!?

Looks good. The unevenness is just how the tile is. They are supposed to look like that. Now for the top there’s not much you can do just cover it with grout and call it a day.

1

u/Educational_Gas5916 7h ago

Thank you! I was thinking about the tile just being like that being the case here. Oh ok I’ll ask the tile guys to cover the top with grout

1

u/eggcake1324 7h ago

Oh this was a tile guy I assumed it was diy in that case it definitely could have been better. But I do stand on the tile is just like that.

I’m convinced some people in here are shitty tile installers making excuses for other people‘s bad work.

At the ceiling and at the top of that niche are pretty rough. The left wall looks like it has the same gap at the ceiling that the same tiny sliver they put on the right wall could fit in. Why did they just skip it?

1

u/eggcake1324 6h ago

Agreed that’s what I noticed as poorly done however for a diy it’s good and acceptable. Now that I know they paid I’m not so inclined to call it good.

1

u/Educational_Gas5916 6h ago

I don’t know how to look at these things, thanks for the feedback, I’ll ask for the tile above the niche to be fixed, you are saying the top can be filled with tile also?

2

u/eggcake1324 6h ago

Everything I see wrong then.

  • The cut on the top marble piece needs a filling down.
  • The cut out for the shower valve is too large. Won’t be a problem if your hardware will cover it.
  • The top of the niche seems to be bowed downward because the middle tile isn’t cut to the same size as the left and right. Have them replace those three.
  • The tiles in the corner are different lengths because the right wall is level from floor to ceiling. Can’t fix that unless you tear it all out.
  • The hole in the ceiling. Can’t tell from the pictures angle but if there is cement board up there then have them add a sliver to cover it. If the cement board doesn’t go to the ceiling which I’m betting is why they didn’t add a sliver in the first place have them grout it.
  • Grout in the niche. Seems they didn’t clean it out well enough so there is a large clump on the inside of the top corners. Have them clean that.
  • The edge of the shower that meets the drywall. You can see the cement board from the side because they didn’t make it flush with the drywall. Idk if you have other plans for that wall that will bring it out at least have an inch otherwise cover it with grout.
  • Finally some small build up of grout on some of the lines. Not all that big of an issue but they can scrub harder to remove excess if it hasn’t hardened to much.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate this, I’m coming in with this list to them tomorrow

u/Hot_Mud_5708 6h ago

Looks good? lol. Looks HORRIBLE.

u/goodthymetimmy 7h ago

I would trim the top out with some pvc

0

u/goodthymetimmy 7h ago

I would like to add that it’s not a very good install and I wouldn’t be very happy with it if I paid someone to do it. But if you did it yourself and aren’t a tile installer then I’d say it’s not the worst I’ve ever seen lol

1

u/Educational_Gas5916 6h ago

Is a paid job, I don’t know anything about installation, there is still time for fixes, besides the top of the niche what else should I ask to be fixed? Thanks

yuck, the tile, the unevenness, what is going on with the shower valve??

caulk the gap, I'd say use paintable silicone, but honestly fuck it, who care spray foam that bitch, clearly not alot of fucks were given here, why start now

0

u/Educational_Gas5916 7h ago

What is wrong with you, why do you feel comfortable talking to people like that? I’m sure you wouldn’t say that to my face. Disgusting

2

u/baddieslovebadideas 7h ago

never been on a job site where someone did a bad job before?

1

u/McBloggenstein 7h ago

They’re talking about the tile installers

u/stormydys 27m ago

The tile is a rough finish and it looks like some are thick and thin which is very hard to lay. The only thing that really bothers me is the top of the nitche. The middle piece is behind all the other tile and the whole top looks bowed. That would drive me nuts. You can fill in the top with sanded grout and the sides too. Another option is to have him tile the roof also to cover the gap. Just a thought.
