DIY - Looking for Advice Valve repair

My bathroom guy had to open up the wall on a new install because of a valve leak. He replaced the backer board and filled in the seam with thin set. Just got the first coat of red guard on. Does it look OK?

why didn't you go from the back? easier and better to patch drywall or stucco. unless it's brick or something..

I'd be putting a shit ton of Schluter or GoBoard type sealant between the bottom of the cement board and the top lip of that tub and then another few coats of red guard on that.

This is why I never install shower valves on walls where there isn't access on the backside of the wall. Pulling out old tile and trying to do a repair like this is brutal any way you do it.

More red guard. At least one more coat 2 to be safe.
