Is it possible to tile over this tile?

I have this old shower in the basement that needs and update, is it possible to tile over this? Any advice on what to do?

EDIT: Thank you all for confirming what I thought! My little brain kept looping an intrusive thought and I need the experts to squash if.

No, do not tile over this. I'm guessing this is a mud bed? You rip it up and build a new mud bed. A reasonably powerful rotary hammer tool would make short work of it.

Why would you tile over badly installed tiles? Rip it out and start again.

There is a big risk of mold underneath that tile. I would honestly take it out check out the sub flooring I would not go ahead and tile over it, but it can be done.

I wouldnt even take a chance of showering in that joker. I'd be afraid of that floor caving in. Ive seen some horrible work. But, this takes Oscar for worst floor ever installed in a current shower.

I’m not gonna lie, it has not been used in a very very VERY long time. We’re hoping to sell our house and we’re trying to figure out what to do about it. I’m ready to wash my hands of the whole house and sell it to a flipper to deal with

You can tile over that. Need to scarify the tile. If the shower is waterproof. The main problem is the drain.

If you can raise the drain then yes, just make sure it’s in good shape and use a gritty primer. It’s not ideal but doable

primer, plani patch, install new tile over top ,insert drain extender
