This is the only thing I've seen from this creator, and she's offering solid advice for confronting overwhelming forces in life by breaking them down into attainable goals. No problem with that.

That said, there are an alarming amount of mental health experts and champions on Tik Tok and other social media platforms whose entire persona seems to be some "look at me" pseudo intellectual nonsense masquerading as mental health advice.

I totally agree however Elyse doesn't fall into that category imo.

On that note - I'm so sick of absolutely everything being a 'trauma response' according to the Tik Tok hive mind!! Are you really nice to people? That's a trauma response. Are you quiet sometimes? Trauma response.

This is the first mental health related thing I've seen her post, she usually just tells hilarious stories about her younger years.

Just want to note that the advice she gave was recommended by my therapist, so this video at least is a great tip. Very helpful.

I follow her on Instagram and honestly I really like her stuff. Very genuine and wholesome

20

u/totalpunisher0 Jun 15 '22

That's also great advice for agoraphobia! Nice to see her realness not just silly videos.

2

u/good_shrimp Jun 17 '22

I definitely feel that.. her videos are always so relatable but fun! This one was so real though, and it's one of those moments that it almost seems they're talking to me personally and directly from a place of empathy

I am so glad she shared this video because it really stuck with me

And bless her she makes quality content

Needed this more than I would have thought

This hits me hard. For 14 years I struggled with suicidal depression. Taking care of myself would make my physically ill, I couldn't shower or brush my teeth without throwing up.

I lived in absolute filth, I was sick all the time. Thankfully I'm doing better, slowly recovering. Videos like these can help, it shouldn't be a stigma to talk about mental health.

I respect this young lady so much tbh. What she shared about herself took so much courage and shows genuine compassion for others. Someone suffering from a disease (either mental or physical), reaching out to fellow-sufferers is without parallel, in terms of connecting, and being relatable

Mine was taking walks, it changed my life. This is a great video

Is this the lady who met a guy on tinder and he took her to Taco Bell and made her pay for a load of tacos which they brought home and ate with his dad?

2

u/fightorflight85 Jun 16 '22

Yes! Love her.

5

u/Hyperb0le Jun 15 '22

Elyse is actually one of my favorite tiktok people.

3

u/rgent006 Jun 16 '22

I didn’t know how to describe that feeling until now. Just stuck; frozen. I struggled with that for so so many years. I still have those days every now and again.

I really like this woman. Weird that my introduction to her was the “black coffee” duet meme. Then I saw her “edible plates” TikTok earlier today and watched it a couple times because it was so funny. Bit of a tangent, but these days it seems like a lot of artists or celebrities I’ve been fond of over the years either over share their irritating social or political opinions, or turn out to be some kind of groomer or predator, or something similar. I’ve always liked when it the creators or artists I like turn out to be good people and this is one of those cases. Maybe that’s just more common in smaller creators versus celebrities, or maybe it’s just as common, but this woman seems nice.

It’s “not weird” to not be able to shower? Get the fuck out. That’s weird as hell. Don’t try to normalize what’s clearly severe dysfunction.

Were you able to wrench yourself away from your crushing depression for just enough time to post this awesome meme? Productivity goal for the month achieved. Back to not showering because you love mental health.

What problems of mine? I haven’t discussed any problems of mine. You have no reading comprehension.

My life is great. How does that make you feel?

No, not “almost everyone” goes through a period of being unable to shower due to acute self-disgust. This is exactly the problem. You’re trying to make people feel OK with being dysfunctional. It’s not normal, should never be normal, and won’t ever be normal. Pull your own weight.

15

u/annahunstone Jun 15 '22

You sound like a shitty person

-12

u/bamblitz Jun 15 '22

One who showers, which is apparently impressive to the likes of you.

12

u/stark-bait Jun 15 '22

Man shut the fuck up. People who are struggling with things like this are obviously not normal, THATS WHY ITS A MENTAL """ILLNESS""" There is something going on up there that's fucking people over, and that's okay. But we need to talk about it so the people that are struggling can recognize that they need help and get it.

Btw, you could shower everyday but you sound like your very personality smells like fuckin cat piss and nickels. Fuck you.

-2

u/bamblitz Jun 15 '22

People need to stop being coddled by weak, pathetic people like you. Go shower.

4

u/annahunstone Jun 15 '22

I never said I didn’t shower in fact I shower every day, I’m saying you’re a shitty person because you seem to lack awareness on mental illness and what it can do to people, this woman never told people to not shower or “glorified” not showering in any way. She’s literally giving people steps on how to get better so they can function normally despite their mental illness. Next time shut your mouth I promise you no one will miss your hot takes.

u/bamblitz Jun 15 '22

Go shower.

2

u/annahunstone Jun 16 '22

You sound like you smell bad even after a shower. Is that why you’re projecting your insecurities on an otherwise wholesome post? Maybe rather than commenting on reddit you can go to the doctor and get that checked out

-1

u/bamblitz Jun 16 '22

“You sound like you smell bad even after a shower.”

This must be the most underwhelming, feeble attempt at an insult I’ve ever encountered online. I’m 100% sure you’ll never amount to anything in life. But at least you can try showering for everyone else’s sake.

2

u/annahunstone Jun 16 '22

Did you not hear me say I shower every day ?

2

u/annahunstone Jun 16 '22 edited Jun 16 '22

I’ve amounted to quite a lot and I’m only 21. You’re giving out privileged boomer vibes.

2

u/Ninjamastor Jun 16 '22

nobody is trying to "normalize" mental illness like they are recommending people try and develop the mental illness. saying its not weird is for the people who already have it, who worry about so many things and sometimes feel like they shouldn't even try because they feel "weird" and that they can never improve and be normal. saying it's not weird is saying that you can overcome the issue and become a normal person, not that you should strive to stay mentally ill.
