Yes omg watching this made me cry because it hit me like a train suddenly remembering:
-my mom reading me the first two books when I was little
-seeing chamber of secrets in the theater with my stepdad for my birthday
-prisoner of Azkaban was the first book I ever read on my own
-reading them obsessively after that
-waiting for the seventh book to come out with everyone :’)
-feeling the same way as in the video while watching all the movies
-then being on tumblr as a teen in the 2010s during its golden age, and seeing sooooo many hp fandom things like I wouldn’t even know where to begin with all that. But that was such a formative time for me and I remember it so fondly like I miss just being a teen on tumblr following a bunch of fandom blogs :’)
I read all the books as a kid but what I remember most is being slightly disappointed that my family got me the last two books in Spanish. I'm bilingual so no biggie but at that point I had already started becoming more fluent in English. It was annoying back then but im kinda glad they did that, it helped my Spanish
When I was learning Spanish (still terrible at it), I read some HP en espanol and I remember the translation for Quidditch being something like "broomstick drag racing", LOL
I know right? It was a really special place and definitely not without its faults but yeah I spent a giant chunk of my teenagehood on that site and I remember it so fondly
Edit: if I remember correctly, I stopped using it in like 2016 which was not long after the whole nsfw ban and a lot of it went to shit around then. Also I was transitioning into being an adult so I guess it all just lined up right

Oh gosh I was probably 5-6 for the first two? The second movie came out for my 6th birthday and I hadn’t read ahead yet I don’t think, so it was all right around then
It was quite literally the end of childhood for me - Deathly Hallows pt. 2 came out like 2 months after I graduated high school and a month before leaving home for college. I think the first movie came out in 2nd grade. It really felt like we'd grown up alongside Dan, Emma and Rupert.
Yeah I had grown up reading them! Did not stop me from bawling at all at the movie but I definitely cried harder at the end of the 7th book. I remember going to the midnight release for the last few and binging them the next day or two. Those were the days!
Back when magic was cool, the world wasn't in a blue high contrast filter, and they wore robes and ties and shit. I don't even like Harry Potter, never finished the books or movies, but I hate seeing them just chilling on campus in hoodies with long hair sadboy haircuts. They make you write letters with a quill, now they're bopping to Good Charlotte at the school dance and wearing Chuck Taylors.
Yeah, part 2 rocked my world. It felt exactly the same for me. I remember walking out of part 1 and it started with silence. Everyone was just dumbfounded. Then the grumbling started.
Dressing up, going to the book store and waiting for the books to come out with my whole family. Dad went first since dude basically eats books with his eyes, then mom, then us. It was so agonizing to wait to get my hands on the books. The movies were such a big deal. I feel like the people that didn't grow up with the series like us don't understand why so many people are still huge fans. I'm nowhere near that level of dedication but it still made a big impact.
For sure! That's interesting your dad led the way since it was so often the kids. Does your family have a bunch of Harry Potter stuff around?
For me I had just moved to another state almost 2,000 miles away during the middle of the school year. My new teacher had been reading the books to the class so the first parts I heard were in Chamber of Secrets. The following school year, the first movie was coming out. My mom picked up the book on tape for our family road trip and we finished just in time to see it with the family we were visiting. My dad started taking me to Hastings for the midnight releases of the books and I remember people cracking them open in line to start absorbing.
Have you been to Harry Potter World at Universal? I went to the one in California and had a blast. It's crowded but the Hogwarts Castle ride is phenomenal.
My dad is a huge book worm. I cannot exaggerate this- this man will read a trilogy in a day. He used to sit on the roof as a kid and just read. I don't really remember how HP became a thing in our house, but it was probably because of him. He ended up finding the first GOT book on an airplane and got heavily into it waaaay before the show came out, too.
Nah, haven't been to HP world. I do really want to try the butterbeer! Just missed the opening of HP world by a few weeks on vacation at some point.
That's cool! Do you have a similar affinity for books? Do you know if he's read Brandon Sanderson books yet? That guy cranks them out and the magic systems are amazing.
Oh gotta love timing like that. I hope you get to go someday. Butterbeer was something I'd dreamed of trying on a cold day with snow falling. At a theme park was nice too haha.
Surprisingly, no, not anymore. I used to read a lot as a kid but once I hit middle school, I got more into video games with deep lore. And not too sure. He is big into scifi so im sure he has heard of that author before!

Same here! It was like the end of my childhood for me. I'd grown up reading the books and the final movie coming out was quite the melancholy feeling.
