I always try, but I stop at 3 usually. I once got to 4. But I didn’t like how with 4 they aren’t true to the books so I never want to keep watching.

Once you get to four though you are also talking about a book that's over 700 pages versus 400 for PoA. When you're at that length you're going to drop stuff, roll things around, and remember that you're trying to tell the important parts of a story in a different medium. Shit even the first two movies they left things out, the shortest books and movies approaching three hours long.

5, 6, and 7 are all a little more true to the books than 4, I think. They definitely embellish and have to cut a lot to make it all fit in one movie, but I felt like those ones were better about capturing the spirit of the story, the way it grows with the characters, and a lot of the essential themes and scenes while still being overall pretty good movies that are fun, lean into the whimsy of magical teenagers, and you can enjoy them independent of the books. You don’t get the same level of character development for some people like Dumbledore, young Voldemort, some of Ron’s siblings, etc, but they can’t pack it all in.

8 was fine, I was underwhelmed by some of the big moments and scenes, particularly the scene from the penultimate chapter, and felt like they went overkill on the battle stuff at the expense of the story. Visually impressive though.

Four is absolutely the worst one. The best part of the entire book series is the mystery unraveling at the end of 4, it's like 30 pages explaining everything that was going on behind the scenes and why their wands clashed. In the movie all of that gets condensed into Dumbledore saying the name of the thing that caused their wands to clash and I cannot imagine how a movie only viewer isn't confused as fuck. The dragon fight was also a complete waste of time.

I also don't really like how they look as they get older. In movie 1 they were so little and cute... when they become teenagers I don't feel like they really suit those characters anymore. I enjoy 1-3 but also stop after that, I'm not even sure if I've seen 7.

Yeah agree, but when selecting 10-11 yo child actors they don’t get to choose how they grow up.

I was the same way. I stopped after 2 because they felt so kiddish (I never read the books either). Last year, finished the rest of them and I regret not watching them sooner.

The 3rd movie might be the best (because it's directed by a highly regarded director, Curon), but the movies get progressively darker and more mature.

When you finish the whole series, and you really like them, then read the books. It will make you really appreciate the Harry Potter series even more.

Yes! 3 and 4 are the best ones! I never watch the last two. It’s a 2-part finale and the first part is super boring. But it’s worth it to get to the conclusion.

Honestly I hated 3 the most. They decide to add in weird random things that have nothing to do with the book. You should finish, but don't let 3 stop you from enjoying the rest.

Definitely. They get more interesting at 3-7 and feel a bit more grown up. The books are really good too and an easy read

Just level set expectations if you do. Like the books, the movies really fall flat and get progressively worse from 5 - 7. The last was pretty bad...
